I just notice that if study in NJC the subjects syllabus is very niche, will an average student be able to cope without tuition? Any parent here who has went thru the DSA route can share the release of CO or WL for DSA students? Thanks!
Not sure what is the definition of subjects syllabus being niche?
All other IP schools subject syllabus same as schools offering O level tracks?
Would you consider other IP schools offer niched subjects syllabus?
What is the definition of an average student?
Average in all subjects?
Average in learning ability?
Average in learning potential?
Not sure how to give you advice for your question. -

Reading the threads posted by other parents state that syllabus is different till no suitable assessment books to buy and quite a handful of their children not doing well so a little worried as mine is an only child who is very used to tuition and stuff. Just worried cannot cope on her own if cannot find the tutor that can teach in NJC ip syllabus. Average as in probably estimate to score 230-240 for PSLE and NJC ip JH intake is 258 about there. So DSA into the school scared can't cope. I heard syllabus for TJC and DHS ip schools more standard as in can find tuition classes doing IP tuition for these 2 schools from some parents. Maybe I worry alot but thought I find out first before letting my daughter decide just because she has a few friends DSAing into NJC. TQ! -

TQ![/quote]I can't speak for the 'niche-ness' of the subjects, but my personal opinion is that if a child is reliant on tuition and can't self-study independently or figure things out without a tutor, then I would not put that child into an IP school, dsa or otherwise. Even more so if he child is predicted to get 230 to 240. If the COP is around 258, that's quite a big difference to me. -

Perhaps if a child already in primary school (from P1 to P6), is very highly reliant upon many high-end Tuition Tr to teach her in many different subjects, can't study independently on her own, don't know how to manage time properly, easily come under the influence of handphone or high-tech electronic gadgets that control her usage of time, instead of she herself being the driver controlling her own time management, not disciplined enough, not self-driven without any sense of purpose ahead, with a possible T-score range from 230 to 240, against an official Cut-off-point around 258, close to 30 points a big, whopping, huge difference :

the child is safer and better off in the long run, studying in a regular O level course Secondary school, following the GCE O level exam syllabus, instead of being in an IP school, be it in National JC, or in any other IP school, be it through DSA, or otherwise.
Reason being -
If in primary school already like that, having lots of tuition, actually it is the tuition Tr, that is studying for her ....
If pick IP : the child likely be lost along the way, struggling with academic ... problems brew
