At one of the DSA Talks of a 'top' school, the school said that most of the kids who could not cope with the IP were not from the DSA Sports group but there are often other reasons that lead to poor academic performance (family crisis, gaming addiction etc). We were told that the majority of DSA Sports kids in that school thrived in the IP programme.


Some schools do not test or interview Sports DSA candidates and accept kids purely based on Sports achievements. I guess for these schools parents will have to consider the child's academic suitability.

Personally, I think the main catch is : one needs MORE time to concentrate in studies & exam - be it CA1/SA1/CA2/SA2 or National exam. I mean, how many of you really can be All-Rounder - Participate actively in school events, participate intensively in CCA, and yet cope well in studies?


To add on, the main TRAP in DSA Sports is : Unlike others who also join the same sports as you but not via DSAed , chances are, the latter can choose to quit this competitive sports any time & join other CCA that does not require them to spend so much time in it; & thus divert their attention to concentrate in their studies. BUT, for DSA Sports - the students HAVE TO COMMIT THIS SPORTS at the expense of their studies; even though you very much wanted to spend more time in studies.

Somehow I feel that the "trap" in DSA is like - "You as a student, once you accept our CO, you have to honour your commitment to bring glory to our school till 4/6yrs (depend on individual school); We, the school that you DSAed, also will honour our commitment to you - To allow you to stay in our prestigious school till the contract end." BUT, in the end whether you landed in "O level class" or able to graduate successfully - Is another story…Haiz…Sad life. Don’t spam me huh!!*

I always shake my head when I hear students DSAed into TOP IP schools via sports. Until this year, DD1 told me a few of her classmates who have been invited to join RGS via sports, not just the girls are very good in sports, they are also coping well with their school work, despite intensive training into late evenings plus the need to go overseas for competitions. I think they are not just blessed with good brains and perhaps, also instilled with the kind of discipline (through sports training) since young.


So I suppose if the child is good in sports and at the same time currently in the top class, should have no problem surviving next 6 years. But if just based on being excellent in sports alone and so so academic results, I would still think it could be painful if the student were to choose to enter TOP IP schools via sports.

Yes this is very true...esp in the top 4 schools.....I think someone mentioned before and I totally agreed that if you are not in the national team, perhaps DSA Sports does not take such a big toll on the studies I personally feel.

My friend’s dd also gave up St Nicks Co for Nanyang WL. Hope the WL gets converted to CO or she do well enough in PSLE. :xedfingers:
