Are electives counted in CAP point? Does anyone know why certain subjects are under electives list and some under elective/enrichment list? Any difference between both?

My DC graduated last year (2016). I'm not too sure if the policy remains.

Any special Electives taken (eg Foreign Lang, Japanese ) if done well eg A grade can be added to CAP computation in the junior (Y1/2) and (Y3/4) else they can be simply ignored (if they don't help to raise CAP. Enrichment has not CAP computation.

A key policy during my DC year is MT can be included or excluded in NUSH Graduation CAP (either way - which ever bring up the highest CAP possible), so any DC poor in MT are not at a disadvantage in final NUSH CAP computation.

Hi, My DD wants to transfer school to NUS High very badly. She is in Secondary 2 next year and enjoys math and science, but the problem is that her results in Sec 1 are not as high for a strong applicant for NUS high for a math and science school. Her PSLE scores are also quite average(241) with an A in math and science. Is there any way I can help her?? She seems very willing.. is it also possible if a non IP school girl get into NUS high as well? :xedfingers:

My admiration to you for supporting your DD in her dreams and aspirations. I fully empathise how it is.. was like when DS came back from the NUS High outreach at his primary school and told us that this THE one and only school for him. :?

Your DD is in Sec 2 2018 so there is a window for DSA year 3 2019 intake. Link here to the 2018 intake as a guide though I don’t know what may change.

DS only starting Year1 2018 so we are rookies really so perhaps the more seasoned higher years can share how a Year3 transfers over.

What I do know is the school places great emphasis on Olympiads and international competitions.
Also they take in ard 170 for Year 1 and graduating class in Year 6 is ard 200. Thus, there should only be a net addition around 30 odd students from Year 3.
Year 2 students are told to brace for competition from the newcomers who can be ASEAN scholars /medal winners.
At Year 1 , I understand they already specialise in the 3 sciences and do algebra which is introduced only in most Sec 3 schools. I suppose they emphasise grades to ensure that a transfer into Year 3 can cope with the accelerated pace the incumbents are already on for first 2 years.

I would use 2018 well to encourage DS to take up the competitions in Math/Science and read widely in her area of interest so as to put herself ahead of the applicant pool. Do call the office and enquire.. I find they are very helpful when they understand how passionate DD :please: is to join them.

hi! i hv a few friends from non-IP schools that joined NUSH in yr3 and they are coping very well! the admission procedure is a written test followed by a selection interview so i would recommend that your child display her passion in math & science by taking part in olympiads/competitions to basically build up her portfolio.

in the event that she is accepted into NUSH, she will have to take bridging modules that teach the fundamentals and allow her to catch up with the school's syllabus (a strong foundation is needed because the gap between year 1/2 and 3 is quite large!). if these modules are managed well i think she will be able to cope with the transition!

Just like to ask if on matriculation day, do majority of students really wear formal shirt with pant and tie or just a white round neck shirt plus any bermuda/jeans?

Pardon me since it’s been long time ago. is’nt Matriculation the day all primary kids gather for the first time to get enroll in the school and also the last time they wear their shiny primary school uniform ?

By right so but nus high email told students to wear nus high formal uniform with tie or round white shirt. Wonder if majority students will wear the formal uniform this Friday.
