      Thinker:

First time, it was my DS3. He had 8 fillings and 2 extractions under GA when he was ard 3. As he was already in presch. My first check up was at Sch Dental Center at Health Promotion Board. As his case could not be handled there, it was referred to NDC. Hence his case was partially subsidised, think the bill was ard $1k.

Second time, my DS4, ard 20mths, his front teeth were decaying and as a result the gum was infected. Dentist blamed it on my TBF/demand feeding routine. Anyway, instead of waiting for him to be older, we decided to go to the same dr as private patient. Bill came up to abt $1.6k for 4 extractions and 4 fillings.

      Hope this help.

May I know your waiting for the procedure in each occassion? The dentist is waiting time in KKH is May/June. He has a private clinic too. But his consultation charges are 3times more than KKH.

Should I go polyclinic and see gum infection and get a referral letter to KKH to enjoy subsidized rate?

If your child is in pre sch, you should try to get appt in sch dental center which cater to preschoolers. Getting an appt is probably a month or shorter depending on availability. The referral to NDC is abt a month. The scheduling of op is actually quite fast, usu the week after.

I do not have any doctors in mind yet. I am currently exploring options. I am still in the shock state when I visited the dentist yesterday, and I was advised that I need to do this procedure on my son and cost approximately $3000 in KKH.

my dd’s baby teeth haven’t fall out (a little shaky), but the new teeth has already coming out (behind the baby teeth).

She went to see primary school dentist, but dentist said it is still not lose enough for her to pull out.

From the post that I read, it seems that there are totally different two way of how dentist handle the situation.
              1. pull out baby teeth to give space for new teeth to grow.
              2. leave it to natural teeth drop. the new teeth will move to its location.

which is the better way then, base on your experience?

I strongly recommend Dr Chua Chee Haow of Atria Pan Dental. He is very patient and gentle with kids although he caters to adults too. He even designed his office with a playroom and TV for children while waiting for their turns. He takes a snapshot of the children’s teeth for keepsake without charging extra (I understand other dentists do). My kids always ask to see him even when their appointment is not due. I once brought my younger one to a neighbourhood dentist for emergency (you have to schedule appointments with Dr Chua a few months in advance) and my girl cried throughout the session.

Dr Chua is at Atria Pan Dental located at Wisma Atria’s medical floor. As for charges, I have never taken note as I usually pay for the entire family at one visit. For adult each visit usually comes out to around $100 so for kids it should be substantially lower. Tel: 67333 133

I brought my DD to Dr. Chua upon your recommendation juz last week.

It was money well spent. He was really patient and understanding. My overall comment was good, good and very good.

My DD din like d dentist chair so she cried wen they adjusted d seat but thruout she was alrite.

Thanks for the recommendation, Poonie!! :thankyou:

BTW, the charges was $62.40. Luckily my DD had no decayed tooth (somethg which i worried cos it was her first visit at 5 y.o.).

I just brought my 2 to the School Dental Service at HPB (next to SGH). The dentists there were extremely patient and nice.

It was my 2 y/o’s first time at the dentist. But to their credit, he didn’t cry, nor did he dislike the place.

Best of all is that the charge was only $9 (for consultation and polishing - no cavities).
