Dear all,
I will be praying hard for wisdom to make a decision on this but in the meanwhile, please feel free to give me you inputs/comments on this. I am an alumni from Mayflower Primary School (Ang Mo kio) and both my wife and I are members of a Methodist church. We have 3 kids (2 girls and a boy) and my daughter is due for P1 registration next year, 2019. My Wife and I are contemplating if we should register for Methodist girls school phase 2b, > 2km, Paya Lebar phase 2b or CHIJ St nicks phase 2c, less than 1KM (has the intention to relocate to Ang Mo Kio). Love to hear your advice. -

For MGS phase 2B, there is usually balloting for <1km, so unlikely u will have a chance (see https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/bukit-timah/)Dear all,

I am an alumni from Mayflower Primary School (Ang Mo kio) and both my wife and I are members of a Methodist church. My Wife and I are contemplating if we should register for Methodist girls school phase 2b, > 2km, Paya Lebar phase 2b or CHIJ St nicks phase 2c, less than 1KM (has the intention to relocate to Ang Mo Kio). For PLMGS phase 2B, most years the balloting is for 1-2km. If ure in a lucky year, *maybe* you will get a chance to ballot in the >2km category (see https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/hougang/)
For St Nicks phase 2C, most years there will be balloting for <1km. If u have the risk appetite for it, you can execute your plan to move to AMK and undergo the ballot. Mayflower can be your 2C(S) backup school (see https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/ang-mo-kio/)
Since you have a boy too, may I suggest you just go straight for Geylang Methodist School at phase 2B. Then u can settle all 3 kids in one headache-free registration. (Subsequent registrations will be under guaranteed phase 1 I mean). There is an affiliated secondary school and JC. Reduces the academic pressure on all 3 kids, plus they receive a religious education in line with your beliefs. Win win all round. Unless there is sthg bad about GMPS which I don’t know about. Ask your church friends, they may have some insights to share. Ref Link is here: https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/geylang/ -

P1Des,
\"my fighter is due for P1 registration next year, 2018.\"? Donu mean 2019?
You need to reside in your new address at least when yr \"fighter\" due for registration, both yr I/Cs
reflect the new address. Also, rmbr this batch are the chinese 'dragon' babies year. Competition will be very stiff.
My preference wld be :-
1. MayFlower Pri Sch (If u're reg'd Alumni)
2. Paya Lebar MGS (u get priority for 2b2?)
3. CHIJ St Nicks (tough competition & yr boy hv to start scratching head for Pri sch again)
Maybe u hear other parents' input. Abv just my own preference. However, if u go for less stress & logistic arrgmts, maybe Mayflower is your 1st choice & not worry abt it since all yr other kids will get a priority place once yr oldest child get a place there. -

Hi there, may i know what is the procedure for joining a catholic church so that i can raise my chances of getting my kid into CHS?
May i also know between PV & joining a church which has a higher priority or is it the same? -

Let's do the easy one first. In terms of phases, becoming a Parent Volunteer (PV), joining a church (Catholic) or becoming a Grassroots Leader (GRL) would entitle you to be in Phase 2B. There is no distinct difference between the three as they all qualify under the same phase.
If however, in the event of balloting (which is likely the case for CHS in Phase 2B) and you are unsuccessful in the ballot, then the PV is likely to get priority on the waitlist as the PV had made some direct contributions to the school and is known to the school. However, unfortunately, for CHS, there isn't any PV. so you're left with either joining a church or joining a grassroots organisation to become a GRL. -

I am assuming when you mean joining a catholic church for the purpose of registering your child into a catholic school (in your case, CHS), meaning to be baptised and become a catholic.
To become a catholic, you will need to attend a class called RCIA (that leads to baptism) and the journey would take around one to two years. After you are baptised and with the baptism certificate will entitle you to register for any catholic school (not just CHS) in phase 2B. However, this doesn't guarantee you that you will successfully enrol your son into CHS as phase 2B is also open to grassroots and parent volunteers and subjected to balloting if the school is oversubscribed and distance priority would also come into play. -
We are applying to SJIJ under 2B, my husband is a baptized catholic. But we live far…what is likelihood of going to ballot for SC more than 2km? Would atleast like to have a chance at ballot…
