Well, if the Instagram Posts written by the girls are not true, would the Year Head apologise? Was P’s email (with regrets) necessary? The girls ranted because they want their voices to be heard using another outlet (that they think is best) and it worked! The other day, one friend asked me whether the rumour that male teachers were also involved in the inspection was true. Sometimes, we don't need to believe word for word on whatever was posted on the internet like Instagram (or for that matter, public forums like this). For all we know, some of the accounts could be exaggerated or embellished? I say take postings on the internet with \"a pinch of salt\".
When in doubt, you may wish to seek clarification with the school or drop the Principal an email, I am sure the P will be most willing to share the information with you.
Not all teenagers share information with their parents. Parent-child relationship may not be at its best during teen years. So don’t ever take their words or posts for granted.
My point is still what’s next and not closure. Like what P said in her email, I will follow up with her directly. -
HopefulOne:
Are you saying that ALL the IG postings are truthful accounts?

This incident has been blown out of proportion. My gal is a Sec 4 student and she said only 1 gal was affected. And to answer Justice Bao’s question as to where the button was, fyi the button on Nygh uniform is on the shoulder area. Teachers check only coz of the colourful sports bra straps are visibly shown around the shoulder and collar area. It seems to be the trend now for teenagers to wear and show off their colorful garments. Sometimes the Nike sign can even be visible on the chest area beside the hongzi. Do parents think its acceptable?
The teacher concerned is a very good and responsible teacher. Every year I look forward to listen to her speech at the Parents-Teachers meeting. Sadly, she did not speak last friday. It is a loss to Nygh and our gals should the teacher concerned decided to leave the school. The principal has already apologised to the whole auditorium of parents. I hope parents & our gals will just forgive and move on. -

My girl is in Sec 3, when I asked her abt the incidence, I am very surprised with her response. Myself being former MOE staff, this is not a case whereby P can just say close case and move forward. MOE HQ would have stepped in.This incident has been blown out of proportion. My gal is a Sec 4 student and she said only 1 gal was affected. My observation for past one year showed under the current school leadership, teacher's work professionlism suffered when compared to previous P. -

Regarding the uniform check incident:
1. All current NYGH parents should hear it from their daughters the details and extra SOPs that was shared with the students in school. Though such details were not shared directly with the parents, I am sure we can all get the details from our own children. And if your daughter dont remember, then please feel free to approach the principal directly as what she has offered.
2. My own daughter (Sec3) felt that the principal and the school has handled this issue pretty swiftly and well. The fact that the teacher and principal apologised showed their sincerity in admitting a mistake and apologising for their mistake. This is the right approach and attitude that we should teach our children. My daughter in fact thought some students are disgruntled and unfair in their IG narration of what happened and the whole incident has been blown out of proportion and some of these students refused to move on (interestingly these students weren’t even directly affected).
For me and my daughter, this incident is considered closed. Principal and school has done well in handling this incident. I am assured that the same would not happen again. -
I am not a nygh parents. Sorry for writing here. I heard about the incident from my girl and out of curious just reading up the forum to find out what happened.
Not here to comment what’s right or wrong or to offend anyone. But one question raised by a parent/ forummer raises my attention. Why didn’t the girl or the classmates say no to the teacher? They are sec4 students, not sec1 girl who just entered the school and easily intimidated.
I think as parents, the only way to protect our children is to teach them to say no to advances that make them feel uncomfortable, even from people of authority or people that they respect or love. We have heard and read a lot about workplace harassment etc. To prevent them from becoming a victim in the future, we have to teach them to stand up for themselves. Say no, be firm. Ask to speak to higher authority if they need to and don’t be afraid. -
Actually, how can we be sure that sec 4 girl was THE victim in this whole incident?
-
sorry I don’t mean to say the girl is the victim in this case or who is right/ wrong. Just a general referral to cases where girls/ women are violated by their bosses, supervisors, boy friends etc. and the importance of teaching them to stand up for their right and say no if they feel it’s not right or uncomfortable.

Yes - I agree with the point of defending yourself/ learn to speak up. School is a good learning background to do it - just like answering a quedidon don’t be afraid to give the wrong answer , you will learn something from it.I am not a nygh parents.
