I'll digress a little since there were some discussion here about scores and grades.

Ronny Chieng, a successful US based stand-up comedian who spent 10 years studying in Singapore was recently interviewed by Mothership. Something that he said resonates with me and I quote,
\"I don’t know if I’m big time, but I would say in Singapore especially, I think don’t let people give you some kind of number, whether it’s a test score or ranking, school ranking or straight up exam score. Don’t let anyone give you a number and tell you that’s all you’re worth. Don’t let them do that. You’re more than just a number.\"

      Here's the full interview:

          Dear parents
If your dc is studying at NJC, could you share why he/she choose this school, and good things & not so good things that you and your DC feel about it?
          Thanks so much.
The reason we choose NJC :
          1) Science-centric - math / science enrichment (eg.AIM) and more triple science classes
          2) smaller cohort and class size - more attention and perhaps more opportunities
          3) no affiliated school - less chances on existing cliques, important for my child teenage year who needs security of inclusiveness
          4) non HCL environment

          Good things :
Boarding program - helps develop independence and self discipline
          Caring teachers
          Caring seniors in CCA

Bad thing is it’s old building although well maintain. But we chose NJC more on their overall program rather than physical appearance.

Do students in NJ get good exposure to competitions and external enrichment programmes?

J1 to J4 students have to stay about a Term (8 to 10 weeks) in school for boarding school experience.
              J1 - Term 4
              J2 - Term 2
              J3 - Term 3
              J4 - Term 1

If your child has tuition, it will definitely disrupt tuition schedule.

This school develops character-building and self-independence. Diverse of students all over Singapore going to NJC and low teacher to students ratio as compared to other IP schools.

The main gate is so far from the main road and you have to walk a long way in. I’m not sure if there is a short cut to this school.

Cut off point for 2018 was 256.
is student allowed to go home during weekends when staying at the boarding? is student allowed to attend cat-c 3rd language at bishan or newton MOE center? Thanks.

                    Hi

This forum is quite hard to find on google since it was renamed. Took me some time to get here. Hope it will be active still as a result.

May I know what is a timetable (start school, end school, any other events) for JH1, with CCA and foreign lang?
I feel my child will have too much on her plate with foreign lang in.
When is exam? mid year and end year?
If child takes canoeing cca for a start, how many days practice? 2 or 3 days??

                    Thanks in advance.

NJC Canoeing is Very strong nationally - be prepared to train on site at MacRitchie (Kallang for Dragon Boat) at least 3times a week. No breaks during Jun/Dec holidays.

Sports CCA plus 3rd language will be tiring, Very.

(Disclaimer: sorry, my kids are not in the team though)
