May I know the booklist for IP Secondary 1 please, where can I get it? Thank you in advance.

School will provide the booklist during S1 registration. Popular is school book shop.
      IP doesn't have many textbooks.

        Dear parents

If your dd is studying at Cedar Girls School, could you share why she choose this school, and good things & not so good things that you and your DD feel about it?
        Thanks so much.

I realised that cedar doesn’t have any bus stop outside the sch to mrt, the girls will have to walk out to the nearest bus stop via main gate or are there any near gate to bus stop, is the bus frequency high?? Can someone advise??

Have been the case for the last 20 / 30 years. The girls just walk from the nearest bus stop to Upper Serangoon Road (where the MRT is) or change buses.

P/S: It was a lot more exciting in the past, walking thru the cemetery.

The girls either walk along Wan Tho Ave to Potong Pasir Stn NEL/bus stops, or along Cedar Ave (sheltered walkway) to Upper Aljunied Road. From there, there are buses to either Mattar Stn DTL or Aljunied Stn EWL.

There are 3 buses no. 100, 135, 155, about 2 stops away to Woodleigh mrt station which my girl takes after walking out from school, about 8 to 10 mins to bus stop

Tmr is the submission deadline for this cohort of PSLE students. We had a quick look at the school’s compound and the impression is that the field is small and canteen’s food selection is limited. Sorry if I sounded odd to be looking at this aspect of the school as I wanted my DD to do well academically AND also enjoy her time spent in the school... Basically, have a happy school life.

The other sec schools that we had been to seem to have a bigger space and more food choices. She kind of liked those environments. But because of her incline towards western culture, I think CG will be a better fit for her as compared to sap schools. Also a big plus is the commute there is more direct from our place as compared to say SN.

                  1st question:
Anyone’s DD or the student feels the same about the food selection and space constraint? Pls tell me that I’m just thinking too much 😅

                  2nd question:
My DD has no experience in team sports but is looking forward to joining the school’s Netball team if she is posted there.
May I know many times a week is this CCA?
Is there any prerequisite or selection trial? (Ie: the potential disappointment of missing the cut)
There’s no open house this month so we didn’t manage to find out.

                  3rd question:
Unlike independent schools, like SCGS for example, i believed the teaching staff is posted there on a rotational basis (true?), so why is this school able to maintain their high academic standard year after year?

My DD’s character is the happy, easy-going type but does not take much initiative to make friends. None of her classmates and close primary school friends are going to CG, so I would really appreciate any additional input about the school’s teacher/ learning environment/ stress level/ ease of integration etc for an unsettling parent. Thanks in advance🙏🙏

I think my best advised for you is to walk away and choose SN if you deem Cedar school food selection and space compound to be small for your daughter to grow and study in.

I really dun understand what nowadays parents are thinking. 🤷 :slapshead:

Cedar Netball is one of the school niche sport and is highly competitive since they have been participating all the school Zonal and National competition year in year out.
Asked those students who have gone through DSA trials and you would understand this sport is not those CCA sport where you can easily walk in and get in one.

Dun Think Cedar is good enough for your daughter if you think the food selection and school space constraint is the main consideration for your daughter school selection. And I honestly think SN suit you more then your daughter. 😆

                    Best of Luck.

I am not a Cedar parent but Cedar was one of our 4-6 choices.

I do think canteen and school building are factors to consider. Did not go to Cedar OH so I dont know about their canteen or how small it is. You happen to compare with SN which has a bigger canteen than most schools, I think, It does help though, the size, because queues will not be excessively long no matter which recess you are in, it helps when you need to rush for 3rd lang or cca, you can spend more time eating / resting, instead of queueing. It helps also that there are plenty of seats, unlike a crowded food court during peak hours.

As for space constraints, could it be because your present pri sch is quite big? Because from outside, Cedar looks like a normal sec sch size. But yes, I do agree that a nice, airy environment makes for a more pleasant experience. Lots of spaces to meet up for consultations, for self study, and for chatting, or even for some quiet time,

Cedar Netball has a trial, I am sure. My friend’s kid dsa into netball, I think it is one of the sports Cedar is good in.

As for “western culture” vs SAP, hmm, you wont be left out in a SAP school even if you do not take part in the SAP activities. And SAP is supposed to be bicultural, not mono-. I read somewhere in the HCI thread that a parent was happy that the school did a good job in making the son appreciate Chinese so much so that he is now listening to Chinese news or something like that. What is clearly different, is that Cedar has all the MT but SAP has only Chinese.

                        Hi Focus50,

                        fyi

For St Nick Netball Cca, selection trial (tests) will be conducted, in January.

As Netball is a competitive Sports, not a recreational Sports, school prefer recruit students who are experienced Netball players, in ex primary school before
