Hi,

I suggest that you contact TAS directly to see if they can arrange for a trial class (I think you need to pay for it). You can ask your child about the lesson after the trial class. Try to talk to the TAS teacher immediately after the trial class too.

My daughter went to write connection but quit after one year plus. She is in lower primary. What I like is the vocabulary section where they give 10 words for spelling and comes with meaning and usage example. Kids will be tested the following week and learn to apply in different context. I believe this helps to boost vocab significantly over a year. However the outcome on essay writing, open ended comprehension and grammar are not great. The worksheet content looked quite ok ( not as cheeM as TLL anyway) and my girl seemed able to do it well during class, however she does not perform well in school Assessment or top school paper. I was shocked to find this out one year later as I was given impression by centre teacher she is fast and good. I realise she does not understand the technique for open ended comprehension Nor has a good grasp on grammar rule. She can’t apply the essay writing tips and good phrases despite doing draft few times outside enrichment lesson after learning over a year. I do not know exactly the problem but suspect perhaps during the lesson the kids are spoon fed with answer and teacher is lack of experience to guide properly. As the centre keep expanding fast by recruiting young sweet teacher with little experience including fresh grad, I decide it is time to quit not to mention the fees is at the high side. I taught my girl by myself currently for the time being with techniques and reinforcement on her weakness. We also went for a trial with another centre with an experienced ex TLL teacher and notice that the teacher is able to pinpoint my girl strength and weakness in detail after one lesson. We will try out another less popular centre with highly recommended Experienced teacher after this circuit breaker before I can conclude whether it is teacher experience issue. But again I think the moral of the story is do focus on the teacher quality when you pick any enrichment centre.

I agree that in many of the big group classes, the kids are just being spoonfed the technique and answers. When pressed for time, the kids spend most of their energy just frantically copying down the spoonfed answers. Not much absorption of the technique or tips goes into their brain for learning.


After watching my kid doing this (blind copying) during his online tuition sessions, I realized that this is not the way. The centre/teacher may have a good technique/tips but if they can’t translate it into getting the kids to apply the technique independently, there’s a gap right there. My money falling right thru the gap.

I think there’s really no one size fit all solution when it comes to learning. I have a child who went to an ex-TLL teacher who set up her own center. I thought she was doing great and she enjoyed the lessons too. However, due to timing, I have to change center. I changed her to TLL and put her under a tutor that’s been there for a long time (one of the veteran). But I was quite shocked when she came back with her TLL practice tests initially. She scored in the 70s range for most of them. Previously, in the other centre, she was scoring the 90s or high 80s. Yes, I believe TLL materials were also tougher. But I didn’t realized that the teacher also matters. I stayed with TLL and change to another teacher after 1 yr. Now, my child likes the class environment (she claims more vibrant and motivating), the teacher and enjoys the lessons. Her center test results have also since improved significantly.
In fact, I didn’t know that she wasn’t scoring well initially in TLL and thought that such results are kind of norm since TLL materials are tougher. Also, back in school, she was doing fine. So in my case, TLL does work for my child now (hoping for same teacher next yr).
But I also know of friends who pulled out the kids from TLL as they felt the kids are not doing so well. It could be the teachers, maybe. But I think their materials are good, if you want to stretch the kids a bit.

Anyone gt Any English enrichment class to recommend for P2?

I looking for one urgently however based on the lesson online I feel teacher should give the kids time to attempt the question before giving them the answer however I tried out a lesson online the kids have yet to attempt the question and teacher gave the answer. Is this the norm?

Hi! Can pls share where is the other centre set up by the ex TLL teacher pls? I think it might be better to go to a smaller centre with a good teacher than join a machine.

Also, would u know any good ex TLL Teachers who teach privately?
