      Hi , anyone here know how to solve this problem sum? The answer is 38. Thanks.
      :rahrah:

      Q.
      Susan had 26 more sweets than Lina. Susan gave 48 sweets to LIna and got back 18 sweets back from Lina. Lina then had twice as many sweets as Susan. How many sweets did Lina have at first?
      Draw a model and show the transfer.
      My solution below. May I know which school’s paper is this?

              The model I drew is based on the P4 Onsponge guide book which I bought. I don’t really recommend the book (even though many parents rave about it) - I don’t think it provides very clear guidance.

              If this is the correct technique, then it seems the model makes use of “cutting up” the model to show that the transferred amount actually contains smaller numbers that you can manipulate to calculate the answer.

              I’m not certain this is the correct technique though. Gotta wait for my son’s school teacher to teach them. So far not yet. Why Xinghua so advanced :nailbite:

                    Already using units. What is “parts”?

                      units -> x -> Ah Seng -> Romeo
                      parts -> y -> Ah Beng -> Juliet

                      actually,

                      parts & units -> Simultaneous equations :rotflmao:
