Anyone has any comment on SMSS? Are they band 1 school? Quite low profile. What are their strengths and weaknesses? Need to start thinking sec sch selection. Hear a lot about rgs,mgs etc...but none about SMSS.

the LKY award for best normal acad students have been coming from SMSS a few times, including this year.

you can browse the school website to get a feel of the school

it is an Anglican school, now an autonomous school - is a good yard stick to gauge where they are among the girl schools

value-add wise they are not bad considering they are taking all the girls from SMPS incl normal acad and producing those output though not as stellar as St Nick

students go on to ACJC, SAJC, AJC, NJC, etc

      A correct piece of information!

This school is ideal for pupils who score btw 238-243. A value added sch, generally the girls who graduated from this school posses good presentation skills ie good in jc project work. My observation is that the top 100 girls hve a mean L1R5 of 14 pts or better.

Somehow i discovered that those who managed to gain admission to the jcs outlined by verykiasu2010 did reasonally well in their A-levels. I was also informed that those who got in to AJC did pretty well last year.

Thanks for your valuable views. Any comparison made with tkgs? Understand that their psle intake points are rather close. With SMSS, majority will come from SMPS that’s why they don’t hv much vacancies for external lot. But for tkgs, all students are in from external with similar psle score, so naturally tkgs has high quality students.

Parents of daughters in SMSS, please share your views on the school.

                Merits of the school…
Any thing to be aware of before enrollment.
What according to you or your daughter are the strengths and weaknesses of the school
                Thanks

Likely because the primary and secondary schools are located so far apart from each other. If you live near-ish one of them, you may not be near to the other.

Parents tend to prefer co-located Primary & Secondary schools? So the siblings can all travel together?

Hi sorry I don’t have kids in SMSS. I don’t know how the school is like in recent years, but I do have a handful of friends from my generation who were from SMSS. They are confident and well spoken ladies who are all-rounded individuals.

You may wish to read up more at the official SMSS thread here, or post over there where some current parents/student may be hanging out:
