            Hi Cantbearit2,

            Which Zoophonic school you attend?

Planning to send my gal to the one at Jurong West. Not sure if its good.
They are attending the Tampines Mart branch. How old is your child?

Hi, Has anyone tried Fitzroy Phonics? Its from Australia. The preschool that my girl is attending is using it. Any comments?

I used to send my child to I CAN READ. But my child is reluncant to attend the classes in I CAN READ. However, i have to wait quite some time for my deposit back from I CAN READ. I was quite fed up with the way I CAN READ process their refund is very slow. When it comes to collection of payment, they are very efficient. Especially when it comes with handling the payment advises to the child.

Moreover, i don't find the program in I CAN READ is very special. Comparing to I CAN Read and Lorna Whiston, my child prefers to attend the lessons in Lorna Whiston from some of the little actions my child performs:
                - Every week my child come back from his class, he is bubbly and active.
                - He will tell us what he learned in class today. But this does not happen when he's studying in I CAN READ.
                - After the transferring of my child to Lorna Whiston, my child improve tremendously and the teacher will update me my child progress.
                - My child don't really enjoy reading in the past. He detest reading when he's in I CAN READ and the teacher tells me my child is stupid.
                - However, when i transfer my child to Lorna Whiston, my son likes to borrow books in the library. He will wake us up on Saturday morning to bring him him to the library or to drag us to the bookstore before attending class.

I believe the teachers in Lorna Whiston makes the classes interesting and motivate the kids to attend the classes. 😄

That is definitely not acceptable. But I suppose it depends on the branch and teachers. My daughter is currently in the Katong Mall branch and the teachers have been very supportive and nice so far.

It's good to hear that things are working out for you in Lorna Whiston.

Totally agree...I will challenge the teacher if this is the comments passed on my child. It hurts their self esteem and definitely discouraging. :x If they are just interested in taking in genius children, don't even think such children need any enrichment in the first place.

The deposit part is the one I'm v uncomfy with each time we are told to place. Hold our money there, end up still gonna wait for the refund. Actually I really dislike placing any deposit to any centers. For sure that we will pay advance school fees but somehow they 'earn' from these deposit if we can't provide 1 mth notice... 😛

This is why some parents prefer one-to-one home phonics

instructors. No deposit. And one-to-one attention. At slightly
a higher fee but you don’t have to leave home to ensure
your child learns since the instructors go to your home.
And with one-to-one your child has the instructor all to
herself/himself and can progress faster compared to a
group (subject to individual child’s ability…)

Hi buds, can advice what is the fee for 1-1 home phonics?

I'm looking for a program to improve my K1's reading. She has been in childcare center and exposed to their Letterland since 18mths old, but now I see no improvement whatsoever. She is very good at recognizing the all the letters and the individual sounds but it stops there... when I do reading with her to sound out the words using phonics, she is totally blank!! 😢

I suspect the teacher just expects them to memorise the words when they are 'reading' in class... I ask her class teacher abt the story for the letter blends to revise with my child for the week, she told me sorry forgot!! 😐 :stupid:

Anyone with good tried-and-tested recommendation for phonics in woodlands, please help. :?:

                        TIA
