      hi chen lao shi,

Any recommendation for materials for HCL O Level Chinese Oral? thanks!!!
      Hi Reenie,

Assessment wise, the options are very limited - there's only like 2 for HCL in the market.

      Sources I use/recommend includes:
      - SPH's 看录像说话 series (3 books till date - no overlapping, 4th book to be released next month)
      (pic \"stolen\" from Carousell 😓 )
New video format from Book 2 onwards

      - 逗号 magazine
      https://zbschools.sg/NIE/oral-practice

      - Programmes like 前线追踪 and 星期二特写

can Sec 3 Express stream students, from the "Non HCL" cum "Non-IP" track -

request / permitted / allowed by schools,

          to sit for their

O-level Standard Chinese "bu-hua" in Sec 3, instead of sitting so late in end of Sec 4,

          and then

In the event that they did not do well,
          Eg.

scored B4 or C5 or C6, mediocre results

re-take second round of O-level Standard Chinese "bu-hua" one more time again, so as to improve their O-level CL grade ?

That means, give them the chance to bite at the same cherry, twice !

          After all,
          in Sec 4,

Express stream "Non-HCL" students are not taking any O-level "gao-hua" paper at all.

            So far,

those schools I happen to come across,
allowed their students to take O-level Standard Chinese, in November month.

Can name some Secondary schools, whereby their Sec ( 3 and 4) students

take the O-level Standard Chinese "bu-hua" in June month, instead of in November month ?
Which are some of these Secondary schools ?

            Thanks, for sharing info.

Non-HCL students take Express Chinese O Levels exam in June when they are in Sec 4. If they are not satisfied with the results, they can take the exam again at the end of the year. Hence they can still have \"the chance to bite at the same cherry, twice!\"

And I think every school does that — take O level CL in sec 4 mid year and sec 4 year end, for CL students. And it has been this way for at least 30 years. The only difference between now and 30 years ago, is that they get a separate grade for oral exam now.

Apart from Oral, has been like that since my time. Nothing has changed, I think the questioner has probably forgotten about it 😂

As for oral, it used to be passed or ungraded only. There wasn’t really a grade, is there one now?

Oral grade will be printed in the O-Level Cert - Distinction, Merit, ...

There is a merit, distinction thing now, written on your O level cert. Is that considered a grade? Or performance indicator? 😂
