My kid’s in MK/KCare too, and my impression was that there were much fewer kids in KCare this June. There always are fewer kids in the school holidays, but more parents than usual kept their kids at home this holiday. And the KCare teachers might have been stricter about letting kids mingle. So KCare probably was less fun this June.

It might just be my kid, but I find that kids are good at knowing what they feel, but less good at figuring out why they feel that way? Mine has said that she likes MK and not KCare, and it turned out that she liked play time ("learning centres") at MK but not the lunch they served at KCare. She might have a good experience in school because the teachers are engaging and the lessons well-crafted, but she wouldn’t be able to identify those as reasons for her feelings; if you asked her, she’d probably say something like she liked school because she got to use the tricycles that day, or didn’t like school because the teacher stopped her from talking to her BFF during class. Not to discount your daughter’s feelings about MK/KCare, but mine can’t anticipate the future very well (understandably!), and I don’t think not liking MK/KCare right now says anything about whether or not she’d like the primary school. (Unless you think the issue is with her classmates, and that issue is likely to continue to primary school.)

There may be good reasons to move and try for a different primary school anyway of course.

Completely agree with you. While some kids thrive in the environment of these 2 schools, not all will. Am hoping that when our turn comes, my kid will have the fortune of meeting and studying under great teachers, whichever school he goes to in the future!
:xedfingers: For all the kids who are going to primary school this year or in future years!

Even though i can’t get her to say why she don’t want to go to the affiliated prim sch, she said the KCare was boring, playing the same toys every day, and sometimes other kids don’t share their toys. She is fine going to MK. Hence i have gave one month cancellation notice to KCare. We will sign up afternoon classes like some sports, arts, academic classes, piano lessons for her instead.

I was disappointed with her on breaking her promise to go school the night before but procrastinated the next day. I told her i am sadden mainly that she did not honour her promise and told her the morale of “cry wolf” story. I hope to give her life lessons now, not just about all about school school and school. Today she is much better, but still insist not going to KCare. My girl may be 5 years old, but she is sensible and there is no better time to show her guidance about life.

Woah, NYPS is really popular and the extreme measure parents are taking to increase their success rate. The housing are prime district very ex. It is one of my shortlisted schools too. My girl saw the photos of the school and said she wants to go. But oh my, looking at past stats and the means parents are taking it is so difficult. That’s the headache yeah.

It probably depends on the individual KCare operator, but I think our KCare is really just babysitting with some group activities. It’s safe, convenient and low-cost; as a bonus, it’s fun sometimes. But yeah if you don’t actually need the childcare, I’m not sure I would choose KCare over other enrichment activities.

If you’re looking at NYPS in 2C, I would definitely have a back-up plan for 2CS! Good luck!!

Sounds like super tremendous effort and potential heartache LOL. Definitely not for the faint hearts.

If u have the strong heart for it, I suppose you can go thru the 2CS ballot. If fail again, there are still vacancies at New Town Primary waiting for you, MOE will most likely allocate your child there anyway, before Phase 3 (for foreigners) begins.

(I still remember DS kindergarten teacher joking with me casually in April/May of K2 year: “Moved house yet?” Almost all the firstborn boys in the K2 classes of BRMCK had moved house to Newton!)[/quote]

I did an analysis of the % of phase 1 taken up based on the school population. This would give a good indication of what parents (hopefully with good knowledge of the school) did for the sibling.

If good, they will register for Phase 1. If not good, then they will give up in Phase 1. What do you think?

Thank you so much to all the parents who replied my post earlier in the month! I apologize I wasnt very active on here. And I realized a mistake in my post actually >< I am actually less than 1km away from Catholic High, in fact its just a stone's throw away!

My partner and I got to discussing again on whether should we try the balloting for 2C for Cat High.... is it even wise given most advises were 2A2 KCPPS as Pei Chun is 2A2 more than 2km is highly subjected to balloting too...

Feeling so overwhelmed just thinking about it....

                  Dear fellow parents,

It is my first time on this platform and my wife and I are probably too late into the \"party\" but I still hope to get some advise from parents here.

Our firstborn will be enrolling into Primary school next year and we are absolutely clueless where to apply to, hence would like to seek your advises and feedbacks especially on this 2 schools: Kuo Chuan Presbyterian (1-2km away) and Pei Chun Public School (2km away). We are also <1km away from Catholic High and 1-2km away from Ai Tong (but we can only apply under P2C)

My wife and I are old girl/boy at KCPPS and PCPS, but we did not know or join any alumni so we can only start application at these 2 schools under P2A2. However we cannot decide which to go for and just looking at the school websites does not really give us much idea about the two schools. Therefore would really appreciate any feedback of parents whose kids are already in these schools. TYVM!

2A2 for KCPPS is a guaranteed seat. If you give that up to try balloting 2C Cat High, the backup school nearest to Bishan would be Townsville in AMK, since Guangyang Pri is shutting down. Are you comfortable with that?

IMO, KCPPS is not a bad school at all, and it has affiliated secondary (just like CHS). Can’t see why you’d want to forsake/give up the guaranteed seat.

It's an interesting take though would like to point out that for Full Schools, siblings in Secondary section also entitles the younger sibling Phase 1 priority, so the \"cohort\" size for full schools is actually bigger..

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

Is it wise to give up a firmed 2A2 place for a chance to ballot? No (but humans are not always known to be wise).
