2A(1) balloting looks like a foregone conclusion for SNGS: it's now a matter if the total number of applicants living within 2km exceeds the 77 vacancies up for grabs.

Though majority of the 2A(1) applicants live beyond 2km going by past statistics, there is also a growing number of girls that chose to move back nearer to better their chances.

I guess everything will unravel itself when MOE posts the updates tonight.
Well the good (or is it bad?) news is, SNGS won’t be suffering alone. As I was suggesting in the other post, 5 other schools could possibly be joining SNGS in balloting in this phase.

          2. If the numbers of applicants remain the same as 2020, the following schools are going to end up balloting:
CHS, SNGS, Rosyth. NYPS will be heng-heng just nice.

          3. If the number of applicants increase by 5 per school this year (2021), the following schools (aka high risk group) will end up balloting:
NYPS, CHS, ATS, SNGS, Rosyth, PHPPS
          …

For “live” info, can only try calling the school.

Otherwise, after registration closes at 4.30pm today, u can keep refreshing this MOE page until it shows the total number of applicants for this phase:
            https://www.moe.gov.sg/primary/p1-registration/vacancies-and-balloting

MOE just updated the page. Not with the numbers though but with the statement \"We are in the process of verifying online applications. The next update will be by 6pm on Friday, 9 July 2021.\" So seems like no numbers till Friday afternoon at least? Agonizing wait to find out if there's balloting.

Such a pain indeed… praying for the best, be prepared for the worst… we are queuing for 2A2 Rosyth…. Last year was black swan even with unprecedented zero vacancy in this phase 🥲.

Nothing much we can do except to wait…

              Thanks for the update though.

Going by how it went last year, the MOE page will probably update the figures at the end of the day with the total number of applicants but without distance breakdown.

Perhaps you can try calling the school to ask nicely if they are willing to share the information?

Before COVID struck, you can still walk in (for some schools) and ask what's the number registered so far.

From other friends, some schools even have a board kept updated with the number of applicants in the different distance brackets (for the later phases).

I have other friends that actually stand guard outside the registration until the registration closes.

Edit 1: Which sometimes lead me to think whether this \"automation\" is necessarily good or beneficial?

I get it that MOE probably doesn't have a choice though due to the circumstances we are in.

Several months ago, https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=137&p=2017336#p2017344 that the situation for Rosyth Phase 2A2 doesn’t look good. I’m afraid that’s indeed going to be the case based on the case now. Rosyth has less seats for Phase 2A1 than last year.

If you combine Rosyth Phase 2A1 and 2A2 over the years, the average is around the ballpark of 80 to 100+ However, last year applicants for Phase 2A1 broke the 80+ barrier. It’s not surprising because the numbers for 2A1 have already been inching upwards over the years, which could suggest many alumni are now trying to get ahead by a phase instead of taking a chance for 2A2. That trend is likely to continue.

Hope you have your plan B worked out already.

From a policy point of view, I think this process has been good. Ultimately, the policy has to work for the lowest denominator.

No all people can come on the internet to check all the time, or afford the time to camp outside school. Hence, making people commit to their choice probably benefited many people as well as “second tier” schools because fewer people would want to risk it.

Those in 2A2 are more likely to be siblings of students who have already graduated. The parents probably liked the school culture a lot, so want to send the younger child there too. Just guessing.

                        Definitely.

Previously, there may be some alumni hoping to get thru without incurring fees paid to the association. However, since a few years ago (likely since the implementation of 40 reserved places), most old boys / girls realized that it’s better to cough up (if they are quite certain of choosing the school) than endure the uncertainty of Phase 2A2. Not just Rosyth, a number of schools have also seen their 2A1 numbers heading northwards.
