Just to check those talent development programmes (Math, Science, humanities) in NYGH targeted those through DSA only or students with excellent results (sec 1 yearend result) will be given invitation letters as well to join in too mayb in sec 2 term 1 following year?

Talent development programmes open to all, not limited to DSA students. After sec 1 exam, students with results that meet the cut will receive invitation emails to sit for selection test.

Talent development programs are for sec 2 only. These programs are in addition to their normal curriculum and usually take place after school. The programs are usually between 6 months to 9 months. No exam involved. Usually involves a project to be completed within the stipulated period.
For most programs, the invitation emails will be sent early in the year. I know Literature Mentorship program's invitation comes later, in term 2 (if my memory does not fail me).

For sec 3, when they select their subject combinations after sec 2 EOY, they can choose certain Special Programs. Special programs mean they have to take certain subjects at advanced level. After sec 2 exam, as long as they meet the minimum requirement, they can register to sit for the advanced subject selection tests. They need to pass the selection tests in order to qualify for Special Programs.

Yup, excellent Sec 1 Humanities + overall results will land you in special invitation from the department, informing that she is selected for Talent Development Programme, such as Humanities Talent Programm to undertake in Sec 2. I think Literature Mentorship program is not via special invitation if I remembered correctly. The department send email to all students asking them to sign up if interested, but the department will still select suitable candidates, also limited to min. intake, like not more than 20 students.


Excellent Sec 2 Humanities + overall results will also land you invitation for special MOE Programmes, such as MOE Humanities & Social Sciences Research Programme (HSSRP) to undertake as Sec 3 SIA project. And excellent Sec 2 Math/Sciences + overall results will also land you in invitation for special MOE Sciences Research programme to undertake as Sec 3 SIA project. Some high calibre students got special invitation to join both, but ultimately they have to decide to either join 1 MOE Special programme or ,school-based programmes instead which is not so demanding. Even if there’s no specific invitation from school, there is also wide range of programs that school will always send to students via email, asking them to sign up & some may require certain criteria to meet in order get accepted in certain program.
