Hi! Esteema,
Thank you! It’s comforting and your prayers are greatly appreciated.
Just been wondering this time round we are not seeing much prospective parents here participating in this forum.
Saw herein that SnoopyMum is inquiring on the shortlist outcome for NUS. Probably next week as I saw on NUS Interviews & Test dates portal specified that the FSA will commence from 31st March - 13th April, SJT is 3 - 6 April. Shortlisted applicants will be notified via SMS and also their Application Login Portal Status Check. -

DS is still some way to go before I get as involved as you, Desmond. That is if DS wants my involvement. He’s quite undecided but very independant in his current scholarship selection. I might hv to be hands-off. Maybe offer some ideas as I learn fr you parents leading here. But u’re admirable as a very dedicated & involved parent. Kudos!

I believed most parents who have seen how their DD/DS going through the steps of Medicine application, will agree that it is a very laborious process.
I had saw my son gone through them thrice, the 1st and 2nd were applying to NUS and NTU. Now the 3rd time to NUS, he has to forego NTU as he was unable to take BMAT due to army training and time constraint. NTU still require BMAT for 2nd timer through their ABAS.
Writing testimonials to substantiate about their desires and interest in medicine. Getting referees to write in character reference letters to testify their opinion on the applicant’s general character. In addition, Referees were also required for bursary or scholarship application too.
Your referees must be able to talk about your best skills, your greatest accomplishments, and your virtuous character. You do not want mediocre or unenthusiastic letters of recommendation. The writers should have no hesitation to provide you with a letter when you approach them. If your chosen referee is unsure, it would be better to ask someone else as these letters are meant to enhance your application and make you stand out to admissions committees. After looking through hundreds of applicants with high grades, CCA, and other impressive personal statements, these letters will influence the impression you’ve created with all your other application materials. In short, these letters need to emphasize your exceptionality in order to make a lasting impression.
As you can see that you have already exhausted your network of Referees during your 1st and 2nd application. Now almost after a gap of 3 years, you have to seek for new Referees for the 3rd round of application. It was not an easy task for a fresh candidate to get such good support in their times in Secondary and JC School Years and Army.
Fortunately he met great honorable and nice people around his school days and in the army that are caring and approachable. It has been a great hurdles and I can only use the legendary quote from "Carp leaping over dragon gate" as just how tough to get in to pursue the study of medicine. -
Thanks for sharing… my son is in the same position as yours… still waiting for any news from NUS through ABAS. Have you heard any?

In Chinese, we say 尽人事,听天命,(we can do our best and up to the God's Will). Since both you and your DS and those nice people surrounding have try their best, then we just use a 平常心 (a peaceful mind) to wait for the result announcement. All the best to your DS.

Here's how applications are considered under ABAS:
Your application for admission will first be considered under the standard admissions pathway by the NUS Office of Admissions.
If your University Admissions Score meets the cut-off point for Medicine, you will be shortlisted and invited for the assessment. You will not be considered through the ABAS scheme.
If you do not meet the cut-off point set by the NUS Office of Admissions, your application will be considered under ABAS.
So for those 2nd timer with 88.75 and above rank point, it will be treated under standard admission pathway.
Those that did not meet the cut-off point but got other exceptional skills or talents will be evaluated by the Selection Committee on the basis of exceptional talent and achievement, in addition to academic results.
We will keep each other posted here if there's news. -
