      Hi ainunnajib,

Thank you very much, for your kind sharing.

Indeed, your son's achievements in (Information Technology and Mathematics) are truly .... outstanding and brillant, for such a young 12 year old Primary 6 school boy.

      Behind your son,
we can also see that both your spouse and you, have put in tremendous great effort, to support him & groom up your son so excellently well, in these areas. Truly, as parents,
you deserve a big pat on your shoulder and a big round of applause from us, because all of us can see that a lot, a lot of hard work & effort had been put in all these past years, from kindergarten right up to primary school years, not just by your son alone, but also by you (parent) & your spouse, as well.

      Perhaps,
you may want to ring up National Junior College directly, ask to speak to the key staff in charge of short-listing STEAM domain candidates .

Don't ask NJC why your son wasn't short-listed for STEAM domain, because NJC may not entertain this type of enquiry. But, you can ask them : is there anything not suitable (if any), found inside the Personal Statement content, submitted ?

Clear these clarification asap, so that going forward, if your son were to submit another Personal Statement next time one day in future, requested by another Institution of Higher Learning a few years later, you know how to correct & have peace of mind. Only NJC can provide the answer you are searching (seeking) for, deep within you.

If after NJC has answered you and you yourself are convinced at the end of the day that it is their loss not to short-list your son, then just accept it graciously and move on.
Thank you phtthp for your very very kind words and suggestion!

Let me mull it over, on calling NJC to seek clarification. As some others have highlighted here too, NUSH is a dream school and most suitable for my son; albeit I can't deny that I was surprised too and became curious as to why NJC didn't shortlist him for an in-person trial/interview.

Every school has their limitation. If the teacher know their limitation and decided that they cannot support your child which destined for bigger pond, they would rather not to waste your time. So I rather think that your child is just too good and the teachers are kind enough to let go of him.

The stats may be skewed quite a bit. Top IPs have a much lower rate (<10%?) of getting CO or converted WL compared to the rest. Of course some top schools also offer O-Level DSA may boost the numbers.
Those who did very well at national/international competitions would stand a much higher chance.

For some talent areas, the top students are quite well-known within the circle (coaches, CCA teacher-in-charge, students, parents, ....).

There are popular competitions where top students are given placings. Some competitions will also indicate the %/percentiles for the awards, e.g., top 1.5% for SMOPS Platinum.

In general perfect score or near perfect for Math but AL2 for Science. Both Languages at AL3 level.

This is why DSA is our “only” chance to get good school for him 😅 too imbalanced.

Hope your son DSA outcome turns out well.

9 points. If have to go through PSLE result route, you can consider Victoria School O level which is a good school and the COP is 9
