Buds,
I had a maid when my daughter came along…calculated the costs and realized that we needed one and try to tahan until she is bigger. When she turned 4, we got rid of the 4th maid and we are maid-less now…happy and relieved from the stress and their attitude problems.
Hubby helps out with the housework and attends to the kids a lot now. He got fed up with the maids. He signed son up for Eng enrichment to lessen my pressure. But if I do not see his EL results improving, I am thinking of switching to individual since costs wise, it’s about the same per lesson. -
buds:
Is it true that the stress level is higher in a good school compare to neighbourhood school for P1? :roll:Your son is in a good school.. now i can further understand your stress. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php
You are right, we should ensure children's foundation are right
and pretty solid prior to introduction to P1 activities. :celebrate: -
Hi concern,
Schools on the whole are rather pushy now, with MOE pushing hard on principals and HODS to produce results. Neighbourhood schools are are also trying to outdo each other in the same area for eg Bukit Batok, or Choa Chu Kang. They use one another’s past year exam papers to let their students practice.
My son is in Pei Hwa, which is a SAP school…meaning Higher Chinese and English are 1st languages. Higher Chinese is compulsory from P1. -

Hi Janet,
I must start tuning myself to current learning environment
Thanks for your reply. -
Hi concern,
Talk about accustom, I need to re-tune my brain to ‘study mode’ again too. This June holidays, I’ve been rather relaxed although I set a time-table for my son. -
My daughter went back to school happily.
She returned with English and Chinese spelling list. On top of her RC spelling, she is going to be very busy from now.
But I don't know where and how to find time to coach her

I know what you mean janet_lee88.
We take whatever chance we have - including in the bus/car, shower time (writing with soapy fingers on the wall), when I'm cooking..but I found that it is important to at least make her write the same word 2 or 3 times, especially for Chinese. Otherwise, the tendency to miss a stroke is higher. -
For Chinese, it helps a GREAT deal to write the characters in order to remember. According to the tutor, she said it’s because chinese characters originate from ‘drawings’, so through writing several times, the brain will remember how character is to be written. I make my son learn his Chinese spelling/dictation the same way too.
Daughter in K2 has 5 words from her Sat RC class, which is getting more difficult as well as her school spelling this term. I really don’t know how to squeeze in time to coach her, on top of that, my son also demanding attention as well. Both equally important. -

My DD1 also in K2, the work load in this new CC which we just started this month is so much heavier than her ex-CCC.
Weekly: 4 words + 1 sentence weekly for spelling. 2 words + 2 sentences + 1 sentence in hanyu pinyin for Chinese. And 1 full page of Chinese writing on Tuesdays and Fridays and English and Maths homework on Thurdays. On top of all that still got Berries homework..
I am also struggling to find time to spend time and coach my DD2
BTW, how old is your son?
