Agree….. each at his comfortable level….
For the record, my kids are more interested in the choiced cca than the leadership opportunities they accord.
same.....CCAs were selected based on interest. not everyone is the sort who would want to run for positions and all.

in case everyone thinks HCI is all very singular in that kids are acad and portfolio driven, I'd like to say that it's actually quite a diverse environment. there are many chill kids too who are enjoying the JC experience for what it is, one step at a time. you will find your space and place within HCI whether you are 'type A' or not.

Any JC1 parents here? This year's orientation seems to be very very fun, with no more Covid restrictions.
Oh ya, sounded really fun and hope they all made lots of new friends thru the OG & the CG. They really all enjoyed themselves tremendously.

Actually, on the contrary, I did think this was great - could feel the nostalgia when everyone came together to sing those old xinyao & hwachong-related songs. But yes, I'm an alumni so maybe that's why ... since it does all sound/ feel very familiar like the old days.

The cca schedules do sound crazily demanding though. I heard that some have cca 4-5x a week. Well, the trials are ongoing now and they should be getting the answers soon. After all, NSG begins in March for some of them.

Oh ya, I recall a friend telling me potential PSC scholars will be on MOE’s radar very early. Then should be starting from JC1.

Thanks. I think so too as if one doesn’t even hit say RP80, law/med courses won’t even look at you. Given the school’s median is already 88, not to mention RI and ACSI, can feel the competition for coveted courses is really tough.
Yes, the kids are on scholarship radar early as JC years fly by super quickly. Two of our family friends have kids in C1 this year, so we saw photos and got to hear of the nostalgia at the orientation. Indeed, it must bring back a lot of lovely memories for many alumni parents who were there. XinYao, cheering and mass dance. Hubby being an alumni must have felt left out, since our kid is in the other school. 😆 (We have 2 more kids in primary.. so who know where they will go) It’s refreshing to see such strong school spirit and it brings fun and camaraderie to the otherwise mundane studying. Keep it up, HCI!

In my girl’s orientation group, somehow all the boys played sports! Sort of influenced her and she went for 1 sport audition which shocked me as i know she’s never a sports person. She told me, “Mum, 我很喜欢摄影 but I also think sports can make my portfolio look good so I can’t decide”

I feel like Photography is an interest, it does not show leadership qualities unlike those running student council, or president of debate team which is useful for Uni law applicants.

Thank you! I hope that in the midst of all the A level prep and for those who are participating / selected for PSC psychometric/scholarship selections, early applications/admissions + all the other commitments that kids have, they have a capacity to be able to handle rejections and disappointments and that they will stay sane.
Kids must have a backup plan in order to stay sane?
If there is no 退路,in the kids’ limited worldview (home-tuition-school), they may feel that they have no more alternative, that it’s the end of the world for them, and their thoughts may just spiral into 走投无路.

When it comes to Uni choices, I get my kids to give me 2 choices. It is a must. It’s like 1st choice maybe Dentistry, if can’t get in, then 2nd could be finance (for example). So long as they know there are other alternatives in life, this will help them to cushion the impact of disappointment.

                        Hi sim,
Do you mind sharing his RP Prelim result? Does the EA include scholarship offer as well?
