OK. So national top 5% is from raw 6-8.
Not by default 8 raw? -
Regarding Pre-University 1 ESIS, 5% of the O-Level Cohort is 23,503 x 5% = ~1,175 (maximum number of eligibility letters issued). This figure would seem to cover more than the number of Independent School JAE spots (something like 950-1,000, RI + HCI + ACS(I) + SJI?)? To me, this is OK because a) not all of the 1,175 scoring L1R5 of 6 - 8 points gross will be SCs (eligible for ESIS) and b) not all students will scoring in this range will select an Independent School. With respect to b), the number of students "Eligible" for the award exceeds the number of students actually receiving the award once they start JC1.
Of course, the math above is subject to the reality that MOE cannot slice the cutoff at exactly 5%. L1R5 of 6 - 8 points gross could be +/- every year (and/or fluctuating with the number of candidates).
Coming back to the Secondary 1 ESIS and distribution of PSLE scores, the construction of the calculation is a bit different (need to work backward from all of the Independent School spaces available), but much of the logic is the same. With a little bit of work, I think one should be able to come up with an estimate of how many students or what percentage of the cohort ESIS covered in the t-score days (can slice the cohort one point by one point). Similar to the O Level and L1R5, the cohort cannot be diced so finely now under the AL system, so everyone can make their own assumption about what they think the distribution looks like. -
thanks phtthp!
appreciate your response.
that helps and i have a better idea now. nj will definitely be 1 of the choices.
ds has esis but not considering independent schools, cannot get in anyway
you are right, must throw net further. if end up at asjc, its fine, just be a big fish hehe. i am going to assume the new location is well renovated and conducive. -

i will keep that in mind! -
Hi. Just to check that the new 70RP system affects the 2024 cohort? Ie those entering J1 in 2024. TIA.

My daughter’s net is 14. Last year, CJC science was 13 while arts was 14. We are thinking as first choice for arts, but she really like the science combi of CEGM. We don’t intend to chance it by putting science as 1st choice (not sure how the 2007 cohort will apply) although the idea is to get in first and appeal if the cop is finally 14. Anyone here did similar before? Possible? Feasible? I know shot in the dark and hence coming to all for advise before putting our choices down. She does not have A math but loves chem. TIA

If she loves Chem, is she going to take a Chem-related degree in Uni? Do check the pre-requisites for such courses. Do they need H2 math? There may be a way to take H2 math without having taken A math, eg a bridging course i dunno.

And wouldnt another science instead of Geog be more helpful? -

Thanks for taking time to reply. While social sciences degree generally needs only H1 math, Unfortunately she got an A2 for combined science (phy/chem) and would like to have both options in business or environmental science or biological sciences which both requires H2 chem only AND H1 math (biz only H1 math).
