thank you zac’s mum. i just went to see your message. very important to know indeed.
i will keep that in mind! -
Hi. Just to check that the new 70RP system affects the 2024 cohort? Ie those entering J1 in 2024. TIA.

My daughter’s net is 14. Last year, CJC science was 13 while arts was 14. We are thinking as first choice for arts, but she really like the science combi of CEGM. We don’t intend to chance it by putting science as 1st choice (not sure how the 2007 cohort will apply) although the idea is to get in first and appeal if the cop is finally 14. Anyone here did similar before? Possible? Feasible? I know shot in the dark and hence coming to all for advise before putting our choices down. She does not have A math but loves chem. TIA

If she loves Chem, is she going to take a Chem-related degree in Uni? Do check the pre-requisites for such courses. Do they need H2 math? There may be a way to take H2 math without having taken A math, eg a bridging course i dunno.

And wouldnt another science instead of Geog be more helpful? -

Thanks for taking time to reply. While social sciences degree generally needs only H1 math, Unfortunately she got an A2 for combined science (phy/chem) and would like to have both options in business or environmental science or biological sciences which both requires H2 chem only AND H1 math (biz only H1 math).

I think some schools are very strict in that Math + one Science = Science stream while others have supposedly given students more latitude to move things around. Unfortunately, I don't know what CJC's policy is.

While flexibility sounds nice, the push back is that your desired combination (S6) required a score of 13 (at least last year). If an Arts student taking A4 were to swap out Lit for Chem, essentially someone with a score of 14 would be allowed to take the S6 combo whereas other students with a score of 13 could have been balloted out (of the Science stream). Anyways, whatever the school's policy is will determine what you can do.
I also noticed the A1 combo has the same subjects as S6, but Math is H2 and Chem is H1. Per above, I guess that doesn't work for you.
Also, per above some people here don't believe Choice Order matters for balloting. Hence, just try Science first and then put Arts. Note, I don't know if this thought is 100% confirmed (seems to make sense though), and only you guys can decide whether it is worth it.
Best of luck and regards. -

Now I see why she included Geog. Well if she is not that hung up on hard sciences in uni then u can consider being flexible:

1st choice Science stream (no harm trying): CEGm
2nd choice Arts stream: EGLm

Tomorrow Monday (15 January 2024) morning 9 am, can u call up to speak to the VP (Academic) in CJC or the Maths dept HOD, clarify whether

without taking Additional Maths (O-level), will they allow her to do only H1 Maths instead of H2 Maths ?
OR
will they ask your girl / son to come down to take an entrance Maths test first, before deciding the verdict : whether to let her do H2 Maths, of not.
Your 2nd question :-
concerning whether after go in by Arts stream first, then switch over to Science stream, pls clarify (confirm) with the VP (Academic), whether CJC allow such thing, or not. I doubt Catholic Junior College allow. So far, I think only Nanyang Junior College allow. -

Thanks for the advise. Our dilemma as follows. CJC like TMJC offers the same “hybrid” of CEGM which we are looking for due to o level subject combi. However the COP for TMJC for both is 13, while CJC is 13/14. such COP is only for reference and nothing is set, however past years do indicate, while her 14 is precarious, needing to contend to net 11,12,13 students too whom might look for science in both JCs. It is made more challenging with CJ’s affiliation. Either we really chance it by putting TM or CJ science as 1st choice, and CJ arts as 2nd, and JPJC arts as 3rd, or we put CJ arts as 1st choice, and then JP arts as 2nd so as to contend with the affiliation, if enter, see the science COP to appeal if possible. The first placing method offers a fight against all odds but we risk JP being 3rd choice, while the 2nd placing puts a fighting chance to CJ arts but we forgo the science. Sorry for long post but you can see how I am losing hair for this. Another worry is whether putting JP as 3rd choice would put us in disadvantage as she wants to go JC but not to Yishun Innova. Urghhhh. Thanks for advise if any. No worries as reference only. Speak your mind to help.
