hi winth, can i have the mover’s contact too? Do they charge extra for big items like fridge, washing machine or is it strictly by truckload?

How do you dispose off bulky items like full-height 4-door wardrobe, queen size wooden bed? These items need to be dismantled before we put them in the bulky item disposal area (at void deck) for the town counsil will collect.

I need to dispose of a few old furniture before I re-furnish. The dismantling is not easy, so can’t DIY.

Any advice how to go about it?

If you are about to dispose and get your house refurnished then I think it’s better you give your things for sale or give it to some really poor families who you seem are in need or unable to get those things by themselves. It will also look as a help and you will also get your things done. It is what I think.

can someone recommend me reliable reasonable movers that provide storage as well. As i will b moving out my current place sometime around august but my new place will only b ready by end yr, really need movers to put my barangs barangs at the storage. Then this period dh,ds n i will crash into parents' place.Hopefully the storage can b somewhere around amk/tpy/bishan/serangoon/hougang area whereby can drop by anytime of the days to pick up anything we need. Moving is no joke man!! Stressss...

Like car118, I need some recommendation or feedback on movers that provide storage as well as we are also planning a move in August. I got a quote from this company called Alliance Movers & Transportation, seems to me a bit expensive. Does anyone have any experience (positive or negative) with them that you can share? How about Easi Movers? Anyone has any feedback on their service? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just sharing some \"research\" work that I've already done. One of the storage facilities with access is Extra Space, but it's not cheap. I think it is around $500 per month. I checked with them before, they don't provide one-stop moving with storage service, only storage, but they do team up with a couple of their recommended movers (which I did not have any experience with). They have a storage facility in Marymount, quite close to Bishan.
Alliance Movers do one-stop moving and storage, but they have their own facility which cannot be accessed easily.
Have you checked with any other movers / storage facilities?
I so totally agree with you that moving is no joke, and have to move twice some more. Is your move due to the recent cooling measures that force us to sell first before being eligible for 1st mortgage status? I'm also bunking in at parents' place with 3 kids, so no place for furniture. If it's just moving without storage, it would be so much easier! :frustrated:

OK, I hope my \"research\" can also help you so you can save some time. Based on what you want, I think you require \"lock and store\" facility (easy access any time during storage period). I think Easy Storage would be better for you. I worked out the approx. move + storage cost, plus pros and cons so you can refer.

1) 2in1 movers (e.g. Alliance Movers) -
(a) Moving cost is more expensive ($500-$600 per trip). But the wrapping and protection is better. (Hired one such company when we had to relocate to Europe for overseas posting some years ago) They provide cardboard/corrugated board wrapping + \"Glady's Wrap\" type of wrapping for protection for furniture. If your furniture includes a musical instrument like piano, it would be better protected. Also, they disassemble and assemble furniture like storage beds for you.
(b) Storage cost is cheaper. Approx. $300-400 per month. But no easy access during storage period (need to notify, make arrangements to go down, and have security guard accompany you). Also, you don't get your own individual locker. All furniture is stored in 1 big enclosed warehouse that is locked up. Min. storage period = 1 month.
(c) Total cost (moving + storage) for 3 months storage ~ $2,000; for 4 months ~ $2,400 in all.

2) Separate mover + storage
(a) Moving - get independent mover. Checked out Easi Movers. They charge $260 per trip. With piano, additional $100 (electronic) to $150 (upright acoustic). Don't provide wrapping or cardboard protection (just plonk furniture on trolley bare and move). For piano, their \"protection\" is just wrapping with a thick \"blanket\". It is cheaper but, there is some risk - I hired another independent mover (not Easi Movers, somebody else) for my last move in Singapore, and my washing machine and piano got damaged in the process. In the end repairs cost me $320. :razz:
(b) Storage - I have compared a couple of lock and store companies (like Easy Storage, Big Orange, Lock and Store - I called them up for quotes). And it seems like Easy Storage's quote is the most comprehensive (at least at the time when I called for quote 1-2 months ago). Storage ~ $500 per month. Currently they offer $1 first month promotion if you pay upfront for 3 months storage. To cut it short, storage for household contents for a 95 sqft - 119 sqft apartment for 3 months is ~$1000 (upfront pay additional $450 refundable deposit). For 4 months ~ $1500, 5 months ~ $2000. Pros = can access during storage period. You get your own locker.
(c) Total moving + storage is $1,700 for 3 months storage with piano (no piano cheaper moving cost); $2,200 for 4 months.

So to summarise
(1) 2in1 - You pay more for the move than storage. Pros: Move more professional. Furniture better protected. Storage is cheaper, so worth it if you need to store for 5 months or more. One-stop, you deal with only 1 party. Cons: about $300 more expensive for 4 months. Gap closes for longer storage period. Access to storage items difficult.
(2) For separate movers and storage facility - You pay more for the storage than move. Pros: it is cheaper for a 3-4 month storage period. Cost will be the same if you store for 5 months and above. Easy access to storage items. Cons: Higher risk of damage to furniture during move. But if you don't mind replacing them if damaged, then it's ok. You have to spend more time coordinating between movers and storage company. And you will have to do it twice - once to move to storage, 2nd time from storage to your (new or renovated) home.

For myself, I think I will go for 2in1, since replacing or repairing my furniture may cost more. Plus I'll be moving a piano, so don't want to take the risk.
