      erm hi anyone can help?

there are a few math thread around.
you should be able to have a feel what P1's math is about.
alternatively, you can take a look at any P1 assessment book in Popular bookstore.
as for preparing for P1 math, you can take a look at the chapters in the assessment books as well as the P1 math thread and thread on all about P1 preparation.
you may want to look at preschooler's math threads too as most of P1 math are revision from K2 stuff.

most of the problems that kids face in P1 math actually relates to their understanding of the instructions ie their english standards.

Chief, this one another thread to link up with our prior Maths threads.

Jedamum is right. Mostly revison from K2 and yes, very much to do
with more on the understanding of instructions. Command of English
      is very important.

Thank you, kind sir. You're most efficient. πŸ˜‰
I agree with jedamum that good housekeeping in
the forum will ensure its easier to find the threads.

There was once i wanted to reply to a multiplication
query, i looked under the probable ones but cudn't
find it. Look and look until headache leh... then found
it under enrichment maths or something, i forgot agn.

MPM emphasises a lot on colour, drawing and mind maps to introduce concepts. While it may be beneficial to some students, it tends to make your child overreliant on colours and drawing. Children may no longer want to form object in their head but instead want to draw them out.

Similarly, Sakamoto also emphasises a lot on drawing models but in a different way. Your child will be learning model drawing but with another approach that may end up confusing your child. Also, children may be overreliant on model drawing such that they forget about other easier alternatives in maths heuristics.

Kumon emphasises on self learning. There are students who dont like it and students who benefitted a lot from it such that they become great self learners.

Overall, i think different students are catered for different programmes.

Also, just like martial arts, there is no best martial arts. Wushu, judo, taekwondo are all ranked the same. The one who make the differences are the teacher and the students themselves.

Hi there, newbie here. I've just joined as I realised there's a lot of discussion about enrichment programs. I'm looking for maths enrichment (as opposed to tuition), and i'm quite excited about the info on eNopi and MPM....i'm slightly inclined towards MPM, but I've a bad relationship with an extremely structured program. My question is - is MPM one of those hothousing programmes?

Background - I put my daughter through Kumon last year (while she was in P1), but i realised the daily 10-page thingie for homework really stresses her out (and me too, if she can't complete them). After experimenting with a private home tutor early this year, i realised I'm probably best to help her with her Maths, and so I've decided to tutor her myself. My daughter takes while to master certain concepts, and time is what I have (being a part-time SAHM). With normal tuition centres, i understand it's more of giving work, and checking answers.....so that's also not what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for a program to excite my daughter about maths....and since holidays are starting, i thought why not a holiday enrichment program.

I need recommendations from parents who have seen their kids come back from maths enrichment with a spark in their eyes.

Thanks. Any other feedback is also appreciated. πŸ˜„

                      Hi MeXiNe,

I'm a newbie here as well & am on this thread for the exact same reason as you. My daughter has been to Learning Lab & the worksheets are just too much for her to cope together with the school work she has to take on. She is somewhat jaded & I think the holidays is a good time to get the \"spark\" back & get them all re-charged.

Any parents with recommendations will be much appreciated.

                      Thanks!

                        Hi All,

Any parents can comment about Sakamoto? Does it help in problem solving? Thanks.
