well, if the teacher is good and the timing is good, just suffer for another 6 months. Cos the class progresses with same timing/teacher (unless there are too many dropouts). So staying on would give you some assurance - if a teacher/timing is popular, you may not be able to get in her jmc class.blueblue:
I am aware that my son needs to be exactly 4 years old to register for JMC. I thought that half a yr of attending music appreciation should be quite enough. I am thinking of letting him attend other type of enrichment first b4 registering him for the JMC.
But my boy indicated that he wants to continue and go on to Music Wonderland. Sigh..dunno should I listen to him and let him continue.. -

if teacher is good, and timing fits, stick like glue. There ARE crap teachers around...I didn't like the LN teacher...buey tahan her face/look. So escaped as fast as we could.

I am about to enroll my kids in Little Notes class, but have been hesitating as in my mind, starting on this course means that we should continue on learning the instrument on a long-term basis which requires many years of commitment and time. If the kid is not musically inclined, it can be quite torturous to both the parents and the kid. Personally I went through many years of learning the piano but never really enjoyed it nor did well in it. I remembered I came up with many excuses to try to skip lessons. Eventually I stopped when I was preparing for the O levels…Thinking back, I feel bad for wasting so much of my parents $$$…
Just like to have some comments on parents who started their young kids on music courses…what is your expectation? Is it just for music appreciation/exposure and mind stimulation and it’s a bonus if they eventually do like to progress on to the individual lessons, or you will think that it’s a waste of time and resources if they do not eventually learn to play the instrument? -

My DD is now in JXC and DS just started JMC. We don't have special expectations on what they can achieve in the future. Our purpose is to give them exposure in music when they're young as it's good for brain development. When they grow up, they'll also know how to appreciate music which can enrich their lives. We don't expect them to become a professional musician or make a living from teaching piano. We're treating it as a form of interest for them just like swimming and tennis. So we can't say $$ is lost if they don't further develop in these areas, as having multiple interests is important for their development.
So you don't need to know bad wasting your parents' $$

Very well put Minnie2004! My sentiments exactly. My DD had started with JMC and later progressed to piano up till Grade 5. But by then she was in her PSLE year, and her interest had waned, and she just did not seem to be enjoying playing the piano anymore.
Since we felt that it was no point \"forcing\" her to continue pursuing something that she no longer enjoyed nor had much time for, we agreed for her to drop lessons altogether.
It has been 3+ years since then, and I am glad that she still plays the piano, but for pleasure only and not for any exams. She obtains scores of music that she enjoys and plays those pieces for her own enjoyment.
I believe that we have given her the foundation to appreciate music and be able to have an avenue where she can \"de-stress\" or just enjoy music, and I am glad that we have achieved that. If one day she decides that she wants to complete the \"paper\" qualification, then good for her, but if not - it's not really important to me at all, as that was never the intention when we first enrolled her for music lessons all those years back. -
hi i'm also looking at music. i realised there is a waiting list for yamaha junior course! don't know if the class will actually start or not? i have heard good feedback on the teacher from my neighbour and was wondering if any parents here got any review? or feedback any school to recommend? We are looking more at music appreciation or keyboard classes...something to get started...:-)

Reasons: JMC and JXC pace very slow. Children only go for Grade 1 after completing the 4-years course. Dunnoe whether she got stamina or not.
Also, her teacher is leaving after the term ends.
Dilemna: I have enquired some music schools. Basically as they dont teach solfege, my DD will be considered beginner meaning past 2 yrs of teaching will be 'wasted'.
Any KSPs here in similar plight? -

Hi, Just like to share my case here with all my KS parents. My older child is currently in JXC mid-way and the class is relatively small - 5 children only. Initially she does not want to continue with JXC but with the encouragement of her teacher who happens to be teaching her from JMC now tru to JXC 1st year. I find that the teacher's encouragement is very important and also to have constant feedback from the teacher regardg the child's progress
Yes, I do agree that the pace is slow ad child only goes to grade 1 in year 4 but more importantly is whether the child enjoys the class. My child's class is \"in the danger mode\" because if there is another withdrawal from the class, the centre will have to dismiss the class due to insufficient students.
I have received the letter for JMC for my 2nd child's enrolment but is putting on hold. Reason? It seems that she is not as enthusiatic as the sister in term of music. So, I am observing whether a 1-1 will be better for my 2nd gal? She likes to \"touch & play\" on the piano when she sees Jie Jie practising......

My take is that if you take 4 years to complete JMC to get to Grade 1 - it is really SLOW. I haev shared in another thread that I am glad that I stopped my DD’s JMC after 6 months and put her into a 1 to 1 traditional piano class. To spend each class with my dd at JMC was honestly, too much for me to take. It was agonising as each time, they will just sing solfege and re-play and re-play the same pieces. I was bored to death as an accompanying parent, especially given that I had learnt piano previously,
