Its very effective actually… because i recommended my colleague to send her 2 girls there. Her younger girl, who is only Pri 2 can now write very well, almost near Pri 4 standard as she finds it very easy to learn those phrases that the teachers teach. She would often recite paragraphs of compositions that she has learnt. Read some of her compositions and must say they are more interesting with varied sentence structure and good vocab used.

The other girl who is pri 6 this year also attends the Math tuition at The Alternative Story. In her CA that just passed, heard from my colleague that she improved more than 30 marks to score 73. She was previously struggling to even pass her Math in all the CA’s and SA’s. My colleague was so happy she called me immediately to tell me about it. I’m very glad that both her girls have shown significant improvement just after about 5 months of tuition.

        Hi there,

Has anyone bought a copy of the English Creative Writing book from TAS?
        Any comments?

        Thanks!

Got mine today. I think it is very comprehensive. They do not just show you good phrases but also show how to apply to different compos. But the thing that stands out for me is the writing! It is different from other compp books where I find the writing is bombastic but a bit unnatural. Their writing makes you feel. I don’t know how else to put it.

Will highly recommend it, just maybe not for p1 and p2.

              MLJ,

Thanks! No regrets about my pre-order then. Will get mine on Monday.

              Ttlkbs,

TAS stands for The Alternatives Story - they are a tuition centre and I think specializes in English creative writing.

                    Hi,

This book is only available at TAS. I managed to get a copy this afternoon.
What I like best is their mnemonic strategies and misspelt words lists. 🙂

                      Hi,

From what I know, they say they will only sell at TAS but in the future maybe they would carry at other bookstores. However, that is tentative and for now it is only sold at TAS.

For me, I am very amazed that their P1 and P2 students can write so well! I really got a shock  But they said that the book is more suitable for P3 onwards so the P1s/2s chosen for this book are the higher ability kind.

I still bought although my kid only in p2, cos I think I can use it to guide in the right direction and make me know what is possible for a P2.

It is one of the best writing books out there, in my opinion.
