we have some house pets with name like Proud Lizard who would strut his / her stuff at night, walking in front of u slowly, like a model on catwalk runway, crossing the living room in broad night light......showing us how fat he / she is .....

wow...your house sure must be free of mosquitoes and insects right?

I hate cockroaches…the more you try to whack them, the more they will fly towards you. I scream whenever I see cockroaches esp the ADULT ones. Oh yes, I also scream when I see cats. The way they approach is so eeks ! There was once my uncle brought us to a place in East Coast to have dinner…there were many cats…half the time I was looking for them rather than at my meal. Oh yes, I sat on the chair with my legs crossed and swear never to go there again, although the pork chops were DELICIOUS.

starting from last year, DW would need to travel to China around May-Aug, for either 2 or 4 trips. Supposed to be 4 last year but reduced to 2 cos of the bird flu concern.

This year she was away 2 wk each for both trips, with a week in betw.

It was worse off last year because both kids took turns to fall sick just when she was away 😢

Can be tough as need to make adjustments both at work and at home. Luckily my parents helped out more during the period.

On pests, there was dengue outbreak at my neighbourhood just when DW was away in July, and NEA cleaned the vicinity more, and also washed and i think sprayed something down the chute. During that period, I prob killed more roaches in the 2 weeks than the rest of the 10 yrs i've been staying there, combined...

we'll kill lizards in the house too, if we can find them. But at my mum's place (upstairs), she will tell me not to kill. So those bold lizards can come out dancing on the walls and floors too 😛 Once I was so angry when 1 of those large ones went onto the dining table when we were not in the kitchen, and i got a sticky pad/trap, overnight, got 3 adults stuck there. My mum called me to go over quickly, then tell me she was very uncomfortable seeing them like that and asked me to dispose of them quickly...

personally, i can't stand mosq the most, and will try to hunt them down if they appear. I'm training my kids to do the same too 😉

The lizards in my house are very bold and spiteful…always leaving shit all over :x So I told hubby we gotta try and get rid of them. They start ‘singing’ every night and once we switch off the lights at night, they come out to party.

Before we were married, PILs had an exterminator come in to flush out cockroaches, works like a dream. But it did nothing for the lizards.

After we got married and I moved in with them, I brought my cat along. The lizards started to disappear one by one. What I dread now are snails, especially so now due to the wet season.

Now for roaches, lizards or any house pests, I'd prefer not to use any chemicals because of DD. But you can get any commercial pesticides in powder or liquid form (depending on preference) at Homefix or old fashion hardware (wu jin) stores.

                  Here's something for a laugh:

haha... well, almost nothing works. The lizards will come back.

The cat idea is good. A friend told me his cat was great, will catch and eat up all the lizards and mouse/rat in the old terrace house. The only prob was that for the mouse/rat, it would leave the head behind after its meal, so my friend and his family would have to clean up 😛

As for the lizards, the easy way is to buy some of those sticky traps, and leave them around the frequently-visited areas. Temp fix, until the next platoon comes by to replenish this batch.

if they are stupid enough to be on low enough height, apparently hot water works great - if you don't mind cleaning up. A friend told me this method after trying it out. The cold-blooded reptile cannot tahan heat. first burst it will wriggle violently, then kanna again it will not move anymore again

I've used the sticky trap before but the lizards in my house seem to be very smart. I didn't catch any lizards at all. They seem to know how to avoid the trap. So I have resorted to whacking the life out of them with a rolled-up newspaper or a slipper. I think word has gone around among them to avoid my house unless they want to go to lizard heaven. I still see the occasional droppings though.....

I too have many rolled up newspapers on standby, in my living room, kitchen, etc. but they are quite smart, always run behind/below fridges, cupboards, etc.

For the trap, must put some bait too. i think lizards like rice. also, there are many types of traps: those most convenient one is the most useless. It is packaged in such a way that it has only 2 openings on 2 sides, while the whole trap is shaped like a 3-D box with flaps that can be (un)folded, so that u can box it up easily when done. The lizards are smart enough not to venture into such strange places.

The most effective ones are the totally flat ones, where it's just like glue on a piece of paper (but must be sturdy enough not to fly off everywhere.)
And when one gets trapped, it might cry for help, causing others to try to rescue it. So in one night, one of the traps i put caught three adults... of course, if scared, it is not easy for the hands to go so near the lizards when clearing/disposing of the trap...
