Comprehension:
Every Sunday afternoon, Joy will go over to Julia's house to play...While they are playing, Julia's mother will always prepare sandwiches and drinks for them...\"
Qn: Julia's mother always prepares ___ for them.
(1) breakfast
(2) lunch
(3) dinner
(4) tea
What would be your answer?
My son was deciding between lunch and tea. He chose lunch as he said sandwiches as lunch could be taken in the afternoon. He was marked wrong and the answer given is tea. By superficial analysis, tea appears to be the most appropriate. However it stifled the child's analysis and thinking. It's very tempting for me to ask the teacher about it...do I appear too petty? :? -
tea time = snack time
sandwiches and cakes are usually served at snack time.
To me, it is definitely tea not lunch. You can’t say stife creativity just because sandwiches can be eaten for lunch. -
japhys:
My answer will be tea, because of the word \"afternoon\". Not sure about what others will think....Comprehension:

japhys:
Lunch is typically at noon. So Sunday afternoon will suggest tea time for me. And by some common practices, parents typically won't release the children to play in another household until the main meal is over. Otherwise, they would have to return home for the main meal.Comprehension:

That’s what I explained to him too…and I know he accepted "unwillingly"…

The problem is our lifestyle has made the exception a norm. I typically grab a sandwich for quick lunch but that is never really lunch food for me. Then you probably have to tell him from the angle of probability. What is the probability of people eating sandwiches for lunch (barring those fast food meals)? Does he regularly eat sandwiches for lunch?
But for tea-food, sandwiches is 100% one of the dishes. -
caroline3sg:
my interpretation that it is tea instead of lunch is because parents usually will want their kids (and even their playmates) to eat lunch at the dining table for good table manners sake
To me, it is definitely tea not lunch. You can't say stife creativity just because sandwiches can be eaten for lunch.

ks2me,
She/He/It always wins.
I/We/They always win.
How to always win. (In this case the 'to' is the keyword ..to win..not to wins)
how about 'only'?
She/He/It only wins?
I/We/They only win?
or She/He/It/I/We/They only win?
TIA.
