[Hougang/Punggol/Sengkang] Preschools

Sigh!! I can understand her woes…
Actually I am employing 2 maids to take care of my 2 kids. But they should be of a manageable age at 20mths and 4years old respectively. Cutting down on 1 maid will help save cost, but again, it will not be convenient for her to continue sending my elder daughter to school while needing to take care of the younger one.
Iam thinking of sending my daughter to PCF. Will go personally to check out the area tomorrow.
Sengkang, I heard that the church school is not so good. -
U mean St Anne’s church? Ya I heard it is good too. Seriously thinking of taking her out of Marymount but personally I like the curriculum and her teachers are so nice but the distance can kill. She is always aksing why is she the last one to get off the bus (she takes the school bus home…).

I think st Anne is quite ok. I heard that one of the church school is not so good, but so sorry, I forgotten which one. It is definitely not St Anne.
I went to PCF today. Spoke to the principal. Seems like MOE had instructed all kindergartens not to drill and prepare kids for their tedious work in P1.
It is so contridicting. On one hand, they want Preschools to adopt creative and fun learning, plus play teaching methods for thekids. They are doing away with spelling, homework etc. This is to ensure that kids enjoy school and learning.
BUT on the other hand, the syllabus of P1 is still so tedious. Wouldn't it frighten the kids and kill their confidence when they realise they couldn't keep up? :?
This PCF informed that they will try to use another method to introduce MATH and Reading for kids so that they are ready. They will try to drill them through play.
I think inevitably, we have to send them for enrichment classess..

My girls are in Nativity Church Kindergarten, opposite the Punggol Park. I really like the teachers and their curriculum. My girls love going to school cos they feel there are so much fun there.
They will assemble at the music hall everyday where they will sing and greet all teachers before they move to their classrooms. The children being used to see so many schoolmates every day, will find it easier to blend in primary school, where there are much more pple in school then!
But be prepared as I find their Spelling & 听写in K2 are very chim, they really prepare the kids for P1. My eldest girl is learning words like Deepavali, festivals, decorations, A box of chocolates, 农历新年,紧长,担心 etc… -
15 to a class. Which Kinderland is that? I must take note.

Hi Simplyjo,
I may go there to take a look this weekend.
May I know if they have school bus? I leave opp mental institue.
Do you think I can get a place for my child there for K1? I supposed it has closed by now. -
Alexandrea:
Hmm, the school is closed on weekends, so there is nothing much you can see too. Yes, they have school bus services. You can call them at 64876757 between 8.30am - 2.30pm on school days to check. They have 2 sessions, 8.30am - 11.30am and 11.30am - 2.30pm.Hi Simplyjo,

Hi All,
I'm planning to put my younger son in a childcare next year.
I just visited Cambridge @ Hougang (Poh Huat). The teacher told me the ratio is 1:11 which I think a little too crowded. I wonder how these 11 child managed to squeez their mattress into that small room with tables/chairs/bookshelfs around
My elder used to be in Joyous which ratio for N1 & N1 is about 1:8. which I find is rather good. I still think at the age of 4, personal touch is very much needed.
Sad to say, the centre closed in 2006 due to the increased in overhead cost.
Well, would appreciate if some of you could share your view on the cc that your child is in now around hougang/serangoon area.
