Hi Ada
pls check your inbox. Thanks. -
any feedback on LCentral Thomson? actually i m still not very convinced to do phonics class cos my boy can read pretty cos i taught him but flashcard mthd. so his sight reading is gd, his first sounds are ok but i agree he wld need help on blending. but if LCentral or even ICanRead is asking him to start on very preliminary phonics class, i wld faint.
franking if its just reading, cant we read to him at work with storybks?
so i m lookg more for p1 prep class that focus on grammar vocab compre close, compo that for k2 kids. problem is icr or LC will ask u complete the phonics then can proceed. i sending my boy for assessment at LC thomson nx week. how to get some feedback on LC thomson -
Basically, if the child is able to read but during assessment he fare very badly due to nervous, it might result he will need to go through certain stage.
Maybe you can take him for assessment and decide. -
Any good? Not sure to send to ICR or this program.

I will feel that L Central is better than ICR...
Just my own thinking  -
Do u mean the liftoff vs ICR? in what way

I’ve sent my child to both ICR and LC and terminated half-way due to the programme and teachers’ issue. If your child already can read with some guidance, I guess consistent reading is the best way to improve their reading skills. Although my DD knows the basic blending, when comes to some words, she can’t pronounce using phonics, let alone long words. Important thing is to let your child pick up the good habit of reading.
For LC, she was enrolled to the Lift Off course in July this year but due to the long 33 weeks, it’ll roll over to next year April 2011, which I think will be too late as I feel she needed P1 prep more than just pure reading. Lift Off covers mostly blending, spelling and comprehension but none on composition which I think is important too. And worst of all, when the teacher is on sick leave, there is no make-up on the following week and the course just get extended by another week. I feel it’s not fair to the child.
Just my 2 cents worth.
