Thanks. I managed to borrow a keyboard. Now I am looking for a piano as my daughter is interested in taking it up seriously.

How old is your girl? If she is very young, might want to wait and see if the interest is really there. A good piano that can be used up to grade 5 can cost $6-8k depending on the brand and model. It’s a big investment.

Sometimes piano/music schools need to replace their pianos. They will then sell their own pianos (still in working condition) to the students of the schools first. If your child is a student at a school, he/she may get a leaflet announcing this sale. After a period of time, the sale will be opened to public at a higher price. If you don’t buy early, at the special student price, you’ll have to "fight" with the public and pay the higher price. Since the pianos were used by the school, they should be of exam standard.

My DD is at Ossia and she received a leaflet for such a sale a few months ago. We didn’t get a piano yet cos we are still okay with the keyboard and not sure if she will remain committed to piano for a long time.

Actually when is a good time to get a piano? My DS1 is now in the fourth year (last year) for the Yamaha Junior Course. We are still using the electronic keyboard. Still not sure if we should buy a piano. My hubby insist on getting a new and good model which costs around $8k! It’s a big investment so keep delaying as not sure if DS1 will still want to continue. Worry that once he goes to upper primary, there is not much time for piano practise. Any thoughts?

My girl is in grade 6 now and we seriously need to change the piano. I am thinking of a height 131 cm type, so now I have to let go my current Yamaha piano. It was a new set when I bought it in year 2001 or 2002 (cannot remember, must go back to search for the details). It was made in Japan. Anybody interested ? I would find the details tonight and post it tommorrow.

Good for beginners who are not sure if the passion would go on, exactly the same though I had when I bought it. 😄
