Having been through DSA for 2 children, this is my advice :-

        - Try at most 2 schools. Why? Any successful DSA to your 3rd choice will leave you unhappy, esp. when PSLE result allows you to get into 1st 2 schools, but you can’t participate in S1 posting and can only appeal. Also, DSA distracts the child from studying and is emotionally draining, especially if it involves GAT tests and CCA trials.

        - Be prepared for rejection, and what it does to both parents and child. My child was not successful for both DSA, but she was matured enough to let go emotionally and work hard for PSLE. Some children may find rejection hard to swallow.

        - A rejected DSA may be a blessing in disguise. I was glad my child was rejected by her 2nd choice school, so that she could participate in S1 posting. I think she would not have been happy with even her 2nd choice school. Also, the DSA process allows the CCA coach to evaluate the child, and this may be useful for appealing later on.

        - Don’t get too caught up with the DSA buzz and prepare the child well for PSLE.

More importantly, PSLE to secondary school is just one more step of a long journey for the child’s academic and character development. How the child eventually fares in life depends on how he/she can face success with humility, AND failure with dignity and the will to move on.

my friend score 222 and appealed for Yishun Town Secondary School(COP of 235)she does not have any talent and does not have a CCA. she went for an interview three days ago and the principal says that if there is vancacy,he will give it to her and she says that she is confident of entering that school. She then asked me whether she could enter that school..As i am not sure, can i ask u guys? (Sorry for my terrible english)

Sorry, but this is a bit like what do you think will be the first prize number for this weekend????

I think if your friend have went thru the interview and received comments directly from the school, then he/she should be in best position to discern.

Of course the result is kind of far from the COP. In any case, good luck.

My child store 230 and we appeal for Yishun Town too. We want through the interview too and just almost giving up hope... 😞 , then at ~1pm today, we received a call from YTSS that my child is accepted... 😄 , what a relief 😄 ; after 9 days of stress and worried, finally it is over and we will be busy preparing for the new school for the next few days.

I appealed to NJC and they called my parents to tell that I was accepted on the 28th . What's more, I was overseas! The anxiety and relief was burdening me a lot. I didn't enjoy the trip before the 28th.

              Hi Jabroni,

May I know what was her posted school?

I think your DD will receive a call tomorrow as my DD is considering to give up NJC. Be patient.

Yes yes yes , finally receive news from NJC at 1630 hrs, DD don't need to travel a long distance to DHS. 🙂 🙂 :)
Congrats for your DD in NJC and My DD in NYGH as well. Wish all poor parents and new S1 students: A Happy Prosperous New Year!

Thanks for the updating. My DS have got an A* for maths and with HCL merit. Just wish that he can as lucky as your friend's son.
how is your son appeal result?Hope he can go to RV.

Now I know why my Friend’s DS got in Ngee Ann eventhough short of 5 points.

She attached the cert of New South Wales cos her DS scored distinction for Sci.

So anyone if going to appeal in future, please remember to include the cert of New South Wales. It’s help.
