Hi, anyone know of any effective and reliable private piano teachers in Upper Bt Timah and Hillview area?
DD started her piano lessons in March and I can see that she is picking up very fast. Her current teacher is effective but unreliable. So far since we started, she has missed at least 1 or 2 lessons every month. DD is losing interest fast as she finds that she is not learning anything new due to the long breaks between lessons. -
Hi!
May I know anyone have bad experiance like me with Seimpi Music school or other all music school that they are only interested to conduct group class since more $$ per hr.
My child completing her 2 year group class with them but told me they are unable to arrange the normal 45 min session for her at $170 for 4 session. So asked us to either sign up for 30 min session at $160 only $10 cheaper which work out to be $80 per hr or can give us 45 min under a newly join teacher wo much teaching experiance.
The worse thing is the school told us her existing teacher no time slot but yet open a new group class for her!!!
Now thinking either to switch her to other music school or engage private teacher. Can anyone please kindly advise me. Thank u! -

Hi all,
I wld like to caution those who are looking for piano teachers to be careful about choosing teacher.
I had a bad experience with this young teacher in her 20s claiming that she has just completed Uni studies and teaching piano now. She was my DD teacher at a 1-1 session at a local piano school for a while and I requested her to teach at my place as I wld like to save time on travelling and she looks very sincere. However, upon engaging her, she only turned up 4 times in the 3 months period. She always cancel lesson last minute. We can understand if it is something urgent.. but the reasons that she used were getting rediculous. The reasons used were: grandmother admitted hospital the previous night, have a urgent church service to help out, sibling has accident in Malaysia, hurt her leg days before. etc etc. At first we believed her but upon few times, we realise she was just finding excuse because she could not wake up on Sat morning. We came to an extend to guess what is the next new reason she is going to use whenever she did not appear at lesson time. We gave up and terminated her eventually, but my girl has wasted 3 months. Upon new lessons with the current piano teacher, we then realised she just simply rushed through to teach, just to ensure my girl know how the keys and to play thru the whole song quickly but without \"feelings\" on the notes. Parents whom don't know about piano like us, will be mislead.
I regret that I engaged such a young teacher whom was not serious in her profession, without consulting others. Hence to find one good piano teacher, it is be referred via recommendation. -

My friend had a somewhat similar experience. Her boy's class was dissolved because only 2 students left. The other students dropped out along the way before the two year programme was completed.Hi!

She wanted to engage her boy's existing teacher on 1-1 but was rejected. The class timeslot & teacher was used to start another new entry level class with a bigger group of students to maximise profit.
As a private school, I can comprehend Seimpi business decision to maximise profit. However, it is very frustrating for the parents & child since the class was dissolved just like that, without completing the programme, though no fault of theirs as they are in fact the loyal ones who wish to stay throughout the two years programme -
Hi all, is it better for children to start off learning the keyboard first?
Just wondering why so many people prefer the piano to the keyboard?
Is there a reason for that? -
Just to share, my girl attended Semipi for about 6mths when she was 3and 1/2. She was doing fine (not excellent) and I found the young teacher could not really engage the kids. So I withdrew her and engaged another teacher who was leaving the school at the same time to give her one to one at home ( I knew her thru the make up class in Semipi and found her teaching is very lively). She is doing much better and progress much more comparing to group lesson. The teacher has quite rich experiences, she has been teaching in different well known music schools, and is able to engage young kids effectively. To me, she makes music fun for my daughter, she plays games to help her learn and cultivate her interest on music. From my experience, if you could get a good teacher, it is better to go for private lesson, same time save money, and the result is obvious.
