if you see an ant hole, seal it immediately.
i ban all in the family from bringing sweets etc into the bedrooms and all school bags are cleared of sweety stuff. no one is allow to throw food stuff into the bins in the rooms and toilets.
there is only one central dustbin for food wrappers and i make sure i rinse all drink cans, milk bottles and even sweet wrappers before throwing them into the bin.
i am super scared of ants because one crawled into my ears when i was little and i can still remember the pain. :scared: -

it takes me about 1 wk. Hv to change when the bait become dump. If the ants not so many, I will just pour some out n seal back the rest. The main thing is hv to find the route where the ants come from.Red_Snow
I used Golden Rooster too. Maybe the ants @ my house do not like the baits. How long did you leave the baits around before the ants are totally gone?

I have house pets - lizards, they eat up the ants, no need to pay them
Obviously, the lizards in my house dont fancy ants.

A few weeks ago, some big sized black ants came to my house. I found out they came from outside the hse. So I washed the corridor with water with 2 capfuls of Dettol. A few days later, all of them disappeared- no more running on my kitchen table tops or floor.I do have the same ant infestation in my house, usually the black fast running ants, those that don't bite. I find the ant bait effective, and like what Jennifer did, trace the ant back to its nest and try to put it along their trail.
Nowaday, I don't do it anymore. My home is just left with the fast black ant, which helps to clean up whatever crumbs my kids spill on the floor.
It seems to maintain a good eco system in the house, where it somehow prevent other ants from colonising my home. Doesn't sound scientific but it works for me.
Today some smaller brown ants came.
I believe your theory of ant colonies. -

Our lizards more high class lor, prefer the leftover foods than live ants. Or maybe they too lazy and fat, cant chase after tiny fast moving ants  -
I find those ant and roach baits extremely useful to keep out most of the creepy crawlies. Current brand for ant bait is also Combat. U might see a sudden influx/ increase in ant activity - i think it's because they are attracted to the baits - but this will slow down after a while (abt 1 week?) and hopefully the ants will be destroyed.
Actually, I've also noticed that in very hot months, the ants will come out and sometimes end up in the water jugs/container. It's as if they are cooling off from the heat. But end up drowning instead.

My grandmother used to put the table legs on the bowl fill with water to prevent ants from climbing up the table and after a few days we can see lots of ants drowned inside.

I got a feeling that some ants hv learnt how to swim  Before I discovered Dettol, I washed the balcony with plain water only. Those ants did not drown. After the water level subsided, they continued their own biz :x -
