hi, my daughter learning with I CAN READ for quite sometime. Yes, she can read, I mean, she can read the words BUT without understanding. Had discusisons with other parents whose kids went to I CAN READ as well. Something in common, can read, but the understanding /comprehension is not there, feeling waste of money, not cheap...

I wanted my K2 son to learn reading too, but I CAN READ is definitely not my choice...
Read an article recently by experts that the best age to learn reading is when the kids are 6yo because this is the right age that the kids are able to read with understanding which will really help them when they are schooling but not if if they started to read younger.

its a brain gym or brain fitness centre.

the revamp prog is now renamed to smart moves/smart vision.
its a gym based prog where the child does ex eg jump on trampoline, lie on giant gym ball to do puzzle, and some other ex to improve visual-motor coordination that is part of brain function.
their theory is that the child cant write properly is due to brain wiring not well, so improving the visual motor coordination will hence improve handwriting, instead of wasting time just drill penmanship, whc wont work if its a brain issue. handwriting problems as a result of poor visual motor wil also manifest in eg the child cant catch the ball, clumsy climbing and walking, cant balance on one leg etc.

after my child attended the course when he was 4yo, (he now 6), he can write ON the line, and eventually was able to write neatly n draw well even tho when he was a young child, he hated doodling, writing, cant read words from left to right, ie will tend to skip lines, skip words, cant even hold pencil correctly and needed the pencil grip. when he was 4, tho only 4, i already see his pencil holding as an issue cos when my #1 nvr got problem and my #3, now tho 3, can write very neatly. so i already foreseen his problems.

Hi, can anyone recommend a good school for Phonics and counting/numbers class for a 4 year old? We live in Katong/Marine Parade area. Not looking for a high pressure school but one that helps her gain interest in reading and counting.

My DD completed her ICR programme recently, she’s now in P1. At the end of the programme, she was able to read a lot of words and have no problem coping with language & instructions in P1. The only drawback to this, in my own opinion, is that it confuses her when it comes to hanyu pinyin.

Yes that is normal. That is why a child should have a good Phonics foundation before reaching K2. Because at K2, some CC/ Kindy/ enrichment teaches hanyu pinyin.

Hi, Thanks for the recommendation, please keep them coming as I will need to start sourcing lessons for:

counting. My daughter is disinterested in numbers, she is 4 years old. how do I get her interested?

                    Primary schools:
I also have a newborn boy. Is St Patrick’s well rated?

I am close to these schools: Tao Nan, CHIJ, Haig Girls, Tanjong Katong Pri, St Pat’s.

What is the word out there?

Criteria: low (low-ish) pressure, less focus on academics only, prefer a well rounded education including music, art, sports.

I thought so too but the research showed that it's best at age 6 lei. Headache.

                        hi mommies

Juz wanna vent my frustrations here on i-creative learner. I spoke to a lady this morning. Think itz mrs tan. I merely enquried whether for the clementi ctr new class for 2007 child, wld it b a new teacher tat will be teachg tis class. She dun wan to answer my question directly, kept sayg it will either be Teacher Jovin takg over or the new teacher will take over. I oso asked abt whether the new teacher wld hv the experience to teach a class. She simply replied me tat if I m uncomfortable, then I dun sign up at all. Afterall many ple r more than willing to take over my slot. So arrogant. R the ple in this ctr like tat? I noe fr the forum replies, tey are gd. Bt do tey need to be so cocky?
Hi Badgal, I can really feel for you cos' I went through the same thing with Mrs Tan. She is extremely arrogant and thinks that her programme is the best. In fact, if your child did not perform well in class, she will start \"blaming\" on the parent not reading enough at home with the child or on the child's attention span. Imagine she can ask me,\"Why do you have such an active child?\" Do we as parents have a choice to choose what kind of child we can have?!!! She is not empathetic at all! She even told me there is a long queue waiting and often threatens us that we can withdraw anytime. She basically keeps talking non-stop and won't give you a chance to talk unless you interrupt her.

btw, The Clementi's centre's door will be locked once you send your child in and you don't even have a chance to step in. They seem to be very secretive in the delivery of their lesson. The receptionist Lxxx is also extremely cocky, unfriendly and not helpful. There was once my child is very urgent, I wanted to bring him into the centre to pee but she refused to let me in. So I told her to help but she ignored me and went to attend some other parents. I could just stand out the door and pray that my child dun pee on his pant. What is wrong with all these ICL people?
