Boy, 2, dies after being hit by mum's car

It is indeed a tragedy for the family!
Even in a landed house, there is a gate to the compound and there should be either another gate or a door to the house. That should be locked and not opened so that the kid will only get out when they have asked for permission. I believe this is a case whereby the inner house door / gate is opened and the kids can run in and out of the house freely, but within the compound. When there is a car porch within the compound, then there is danger in this case. -
With toddlers it is best to keep an eye on them 24/7, never leaving them alone for a single min, cos a split second lapse in judgement can end in tragedy. Sorry to say that but I think the maid should be keeping an eye on him while the mum is out. Safety of the child is more important than household chores. When I need to visit the bathroom, I even bring my kids in when they were toddlers.
Let me share two examples:
My SIL's nephew was almost drowned cos her MIL thought the maid was keeping an eye on him while the maid thought her MIL was doing it. The 15 month old toddler somehow made his way to the fish pond outside their semi-D. Fortunately, when they managed to find and fish him out of the pond, they managed to revive him.
There was once when DS1 was 2 years old and I brought him to FIL shop which was facing a main road. For no reason, he suddenly just dashed out of the shop but fortunately, instead of running into the main road, he turned and ran along the pavement. I immediately ran and caught him just before he reached the road junction which was about 25m away. :yikes: :yikes:

This is so sad...
I've always told DD since she was a toddler, never to run out when the car is reversing, but to stand inside and wait until the car has stopped, before running out to greet. Alternatively, if she's outside playing and she sees any of our car reversing, she should move aside and not stand directly behind cos we wouldn't be able to see her and may knock into her.
I used to have a dog and we were very worried we would knock him down one day cos he would run out to greet us the moment he saw us reversing and most times, we couldn't even see him... :nailbite: -
gosh, it must be awful for the mum.

cant imagine how distraught it must be for the mother to kill
her own son… may god give the family strength to carry on. -

Don't stay in landed property. My client who hit mum also stat landed.LKVM:
Stop driving MVP?
park the car outside or when going to park inside, call home tell maid to lock kids inside.
if not dnt drive MPV, drive chery  -
Like most of the childcare centre which is using a landed property, I saw them having a inner low fence to prevent the kids from getting into the car acessable path … But if course might not be so nice for own property la … But it would be a great idea if doesn’t have a helper to take care of young kids…

So very sad. The mother must be very traumatized - loss of child and guilt.

i second that. park the car outside, if possible first. when the nights are quieter & no kids running ard, then reverse back into compound.LKVM:

Yes my DD cc has trible protection. Outside gate close all the time (except rain), Lower inner fence (also lock) and main door (door is open but gate is close)
