kiasu-mom:

DD had a tough time with the Math paper on Friday, was surprised as she is usually a 90+ scorer in school and the paper from what I read was not extremely hard. Talking through with her, I found out that she was so stressed that she practically 'blanked out' and could not think clearly. I feel sad for her and also guilty that I was probably the one who stressed her out.
Took her out on Sat for a break and hopefully she recovers from the setback and bounce back for Chinese, Science and Higher chinese papers rest of the week.
Kiasu-mum you did the right thing to bring her out for a break. Don't blame yourself. Blanking out during major exams do happen due to anxiety or panic when they are stuck at more questions than normal. Ask her to just try her best for subsequent papers. Jiayou to both :rahrah:

My hearts go out to all P6ers who are very stress. As parents, what we can do now is to give them moral support. Let’s pray for these kids who are doing their exams the next 2 to 3 days.

Whatever their results, we trust they do their best. Whichever secondary school they go to, it’s never the end. What is more important is their well being. So long as they continue to work hard, they will excel eventually. There are kids who go to top schools and fail and there are those who get into the normal sec sch and excel in life.

Good luck to all P6ers and do your best!

Can't agree more! No offence but in this case, it is the parents' expectations that make the children stress!

When they are saying these, wonder if they have imagined what if they are in the shoes of those who are just average or even below and it is not due to laziness for not studying hard enough but that these children may be late bloomers or slower than others and had worked and studied very hard!

I said this because I know of some parents who simply ignored the hard work their children put in and focus only on the results. They were reprimanded or even punished when they could not get the results their parents expected. One of them was even forced to still attend school and tuition although she was having a high fever!

ya parents cannot simply demand for good results. We need to earn that right to scold our kids. If we can't solve the problem sum ourselves how can we expect our kids to solve them. If we don't understand grammar, how can we expect those little ones to write good comp....No lah, not true. If we don't know, I think the best way is to study with them. We can then understand their problem and the level of difficulty. We can then empathise and encourage. Those times were so painful and fearful and I am so glad that it is over.

By the way, I can understand why firefly38 is worried with 93 marks. To get to the top school, the kid needs a 270 to be comfortable. If a kid is not that strong in the 2 languages, he/she need to strive for perfect score for math and science (very difficult) to cover the shortfall.

hey author 2001, wrong number leh :slapshead: ! i am NOT the one who is worried with 93 marks hor (please read very carefully all previous posts)!

in fact, i feel sad when i read about 2 parents complaining about their children doing \"badly' in their math exam as they got only 91.5 and 93 marks. i feel that parents are getting very greedy & hard to please, hence causing our poor children to be sooo stressed nowadays!

as ppnqq mentioned in her post, we need to be sensitive towards other parents' feelings whenever we post our thoughts here. imagine how will parents with 'average' kids feel, when they read such posts.

btw, i will be the last parent to worry about the '93 marks' thingy, as DS has already secured COs from RI & HCI 😉 ! as i have always told DS, as long as he has tried his best (which he always does), i will be very proud of him, regardless of what marks he gets.. :hugs: :snuggles:
Haha, good one. COs from Ri and HCI, as long as PSLE result able to get into Express Stream then it is ok.

My DS told me that some of his friends who have COs from RI, HCI, NUSH did during PSLE.

1) One fall asleep during listending compo.
2) One has so much time left during math paper2 after checking that he does not know what to do and counted that the \"Non Chinese\" name mentioned in the math papaer are only twice and \"Chinese\" names have listed 8 times.
3) Another of his classmate counted that he wrote 689 words for this Eng Compo.

So they are very relax manz.... :imcool: :imcool: :imcool:
aiyo. your children all so smart math paper almost get full marks. But my DD onli (Confirmed) get 93 for maths quite sure t score will suffer...

aiyo.. so stressed

sigh.. mine even worse.. for prelim get only 91.5... now already lost about 5 marks in PSLE already.. A* flying away!!!!

wow.. 91.5 or 93 marks is considered not good enough.. parents are getting very greedy & hard to pleased.. no wonder our children are feeling so stressed nowadays!

you are right firefly38....why is 91 or 93 something to fret about???
i really dont get it......*scratch-head*
Speechless?!
:whut:
Hmmm, might not have any different for someone but might be a big different for others.

My DS scored 77.x% for SA1 during mid year exams. His classmate score 80.x%. His clasmate got CO from RI DSA and my son was rejected.Another classmate scored 77.9% and got a Waiting List.

So do you think that the 2% or 3% makes a different? I am not sure...

Lots of kids especially boys will not feel stress about exams and results. not at P6 age.

We should just let them be themselves and just push them when necessary.
No point adding extra stress on them as it’s not going to help.

They must be rather bright to be able to complete the papers so far ahead of time that they have time to do other things.

My DS2 even more classic case.. got 60+ marks for English and 70+ marks for Math, Science & Chinese in the recent SA1 exam :faint: ! I will be jumping with joy, if he can get above 80 marks in the upcoming SA2 exam 🕺 ! If he gets above 90 marks, I will be crying.. tears of joy lah! 😢 😢

I've gone through this for 6 years already. Went from 70-80+ from p1-p4 to 50-70+ from p5/p6. ;( 😓

You are not alone. Me too  ... Results aside now DH and I always believe DS will be successful in the future we just have to give them time to bloom. :celebrate:
