Hi ALL,
Read the past post. Find it interesting.
Planning my first self drive trip in Malaysia. Maybe will bring my gal too. 3yo.
Can you help me by giving me more info on what u can do at Ipoh and Cameron Highlands?
Thanx Thanx!! -
Haven’t been to Ipoh. As for Cameron Highlands, there’s pasar malam, tea plantation, rose garden, cactus garden, lots of makan, strawberry picking, vege farms, small waterfalls, Orang Asli village, trekking, etc. If you have another experienced driver, you may want to drive to the peak of the mountain (can’t remember the name). Steep and narrow road all the way up (and down). Best to turn off aircon compressor but have the aircon fan running so as to cool gearbox.

Thanx TTLauPeh,
Which month u visit the place? Read on net its rain often there…
BTW did u visit the Lost World of Tambun with ur kids? -
Hmm..my hometown is in Ipoh and my home is just a stone away from The Lost World of Tambun. To my uncles and families, they do not go there..as the entrance fee is costly and small as compared to Sunway Lagoon. A year, I travel at least 6 times back there and never have I ever been to the place..
Anyway, Bowie, the weather in Cameron Highlands are unpredictable. So, go at any month is fine.
In Ipoh, you should visit all the Caves. Perak cave and San Poh Tong are the two famous one. There is one more with very nice granite and a lovely pond..slightly further in from San Poh Tong but it is hard for me to describe the place. The cave is at Rapat Setia area where I used to cycle there often when I was once styayed near this place!
And you should go to old town to try it famous chicken shredded kway teow (same eatery where old town coffee was born) you ask ppl around tehre and they will tell you where..but first you must be at Old Town! And you should also try the chicken and taugeh (Nga Choi Gai in Cantonese) at Old Wong ..if not Kok Kee also good..still lots of things..if you interested, let me know. I will write more for u.. -
Don’t quite remember. It was during a school break, most likely the Sept or Dec one. No, didn’t go to Tambun. The new road from the Simpang Pulai NSH exit is pretty good; the older one is more windy, has no overtaking sections, and has steep above-surface embankments on at least one side so there’s a higher risk of traffic getting blocked if there’s a landslide.

Does anyone know whether travel agencies use the old road or the new road up to Cameron? The reason for asking is that I am prone to motion sickness and will throw up if the road is really winding. We don't have a car, so driving up on our own is out of the question. Been wanting to go to Cameron but kept putting it off because of this reason. My last time there was donkey years ago.

Unless you use GPS (but this defeats the fun of driving).
The NE highway after Toll SungeiBesi can be quite confusing for first timers

Can checkout the agencies at Malaysia travel fair 16-18Oct (I am not sure of date). Kids will likely vomit at the \"traditional\" road  -
If going to Cameron Highland, it is recommended for you to use Elite Highway instead of going through Sungai Besi toll. I cant recall the exit name but after Nilai, watch out for the next exit. It should state to KLIA, Ipoh etc. Just follow the route to Ipoh and you will re-join the North South highway just before Sg Buloh overhead bridge.
