I guess, my DS would not have any chance appeal to HCI. As he was already accepted by ACS(I) via DSA. For RI, with T-Socre 256, I guess it is almost impossible.

Will ask my DS to accept the reality and encourage him to work hard in ACS(I).

a) are there students who purposely join IP programme for Sec 1/ 2 first, after that quickly switch over to O level programme for Sec 3/4 just to secure an O level cert, even though they can still cope with IP programme ? and then after that, use O level cert to join back A level JC ?

i ever heard of pupils who join O level class in DHS
even tough their grades permit them to stay in IP track after yr2.

and there are pupils who transferred out to another sec sch juz to do O level volunteerly.
but these are very rare......

perhaps after trying out for 2 yrs, they know what they want and what's best for them...........

Unlikely to get into HCI, so drop it. If u are prepared to travel place NJC as top choice follow by VS IP and DHS. If distance is a consideration, move VS iP to top follow by DHS.

Yes, I too don't understand why is HCI unlikely for 257+2?
2009 - 259
2010 - 257
2011 - 257

But in 2009 most school COPs were higher than 2010 COPs, meaning COPs dropped by 2-3 pts for 2010 sec 1 intake. Some rose in 2011, but HCI remained same for 2010 and 2011. So if the child is keen on the school with 257+2, I think should give it a go. Also I feel NJC COP may drop a bit this year as they have given out lesser than normal DSA offers, which opens up more vacancies for Sec 1 posting. Choice of Secondary Schools
1st :\t0806 - Hwa Chong Institution
2nd :\t0701 - National Junior College
3rd :\t9151 - Victoria School - Integrated Programme
4th :\t3101 - Dunman High School
5th :\t3014 - Victoria School - 'O' Level Programme
6th :\t7104 - Chung Cheng High School (Main)

No return now....just have to wait and pray DS will get into the school he likes.....wish us luck....good luck to everyone too!!!

IP or O level route, it really depend what your child aim towards…Some will rather choose the Poly route after O level. With a Diploma in hand, you are more in demand then an A level cert. To move on to University, no matter poly or JC, you still stand a chance…some engineering courses provide 2 YEARS exemption for poly grad…so this should also be in your consideration…

To move on to University, no matter poly or JC, you still stand a chance...some engineering courses provide 2 YEARS exemption for poly grad...so this should also be in your consideration....

Think as parents, most of us will set our sight on a deg (min), especially if the child is good enough to enrol int IP.

Just to add on, you still need to do very well in poly to get into local uni. Those who are top 10% in the cohort stand a better chance. However
, not all faculties allow for exemption. The poly grads still need to compete with the A-level students for a place in the uni. My niece was among the top 10% in one of the ploys, accountancy or business studies. Her GPA was 3.7+. Could not get into business and accountancy in nus and ntu. She was given a place to do psychology in ntu instead. 4 yr course and no exemption.

know of someone who did very well in Poly and was accepted into NUS second year of a 3 year course

but decided to quit NUS because it is wasting time doing unrelated and unnecessary subjects/module that have nothing to do with the degree qualification and needed the 2 years to get a first degree

he went overseas and took one year to get a degree and another year to get a masters, well ahead of his peers in SG

Hm... maybe share a little story here, since we are at it. My DD2 did not do well for PSLE at all! In fact, we had to go to appeal for her to get into her sister's secondary school. She did not manage to finish her Math paper also, as her eye had a cyst and it was bleeding and she could not see, and nobody helped her, nobody gave her extra time. When we asked to review her paper, spent $100, and just one sentence came back. No error.


So that was 2009. She spent 1.5 years in her sec school, a mix of good and bad experiences in a good secondary school. Then I took her out to homeschool her middle of this year when we went overseas. We studied about 2 hours a day, consistently on a high school ('A' level equivalent) program, she completed with GPA 3.9 out of 4.0. She got a place in the uni last week.

Poor PSLE score - maybe, poorer than many here. But who cares, we did not let that deter us, put on our best and surge ahead of the rest. She will also be the youngest in her class. She will graduate from uni at 17, probably record in this family as well. With the lowest PSLE score in this house. PSLE and the school you attend do not measure anything, unless you let them.

Help me to decide should i let ds take msp as 3rd language or nothing at all ? Is it much easier compared to malay as a second language ? If i leave it to him he will surely choose not to.
