Blur Dad:
not sure about law but it seems that 25 of the last ib cohort made it to NUS medicine.
Thank you very much
Thought DS would rub shoulder with those MIW and might be good friend with few of those future leaders in Singapore.
In his future school, not bad also lah. Able to be friends with those rich and mighty. He was happy to see half of his friends in the same sec school and sad to see the other half went to the Bishan.
When my DS was in Pri 4. I told him there are only 2 schools that he should go for this secondary education. RI or HCI. The rest of the schools are “secondary” school. Take a look at those scholars. Either PSC, A* or President scholars, how many come from HCI and RI? Almost 80% - 90%. Most of them go to top uni in US or UK. I ask him should aim high and not just happy to enter local uni and work in the “middle management” level in the future and be happy. Just like a football player, do you think he wants to join Tampanes Rover to compete in Singapore ledge cup or join Man U. or Leverpool to compete in EPL. However, now I think I have to change my view and his.
He always want to be a lawyer, I understand that in local uni, more then 50% of the cohort of law faculty come from RJC (ex RI or RGS), is it true? Those not from the Raffles’ family will be ostracized. Is it true? What is the chances for an IB student to read laws in NUS? What is the percentage of the whole cohort come form IB?
Thank you -

it is not difficult to get to an overseas Uni. Have decent results and have money can already. It is difficult to get a scholarship to go to an overseas Uni.
Thank you very muchBlur Dad:

Blur dad,
I really glad for you and your DS that you have finally found closure to your sec sch dilemma.
I'm sure your DS will shine in ACSI with your encouragement and guidance and maybe 6 years down the road, you will be sharing with us in KSP that your joy of your DS being one of the top in his ACSI cohort. Sincerely wishing your DS all the best. :celebrate:

.[/quote]True and not true. To get into a foreign uni is not difficult for most subjects, but not easy for medicine, dentistry, and physiotherapy. Law is relatively easy, but difficult if you want to get it recognized in Singapore. Perhaps not as competitive as local uni, but not easy at all!
To get a scholarship, it is not easy at all. It is easier to get a scholarship in Singapore than overseas. Also depends on the country you go to, and the subject you are opting. -

I guess parents are required to be at the school for the first day. Subsequently no need right ?
So ngbrdad, in your case you still can submit appeal to RI right ? Have you done so?If so, will there be anything like interview etc that your ds need to go? -
ngbrdad:
Help me to decide should i let ds take msp as 3rd language or nothing at all ? Is it much easier compared to malay as a second language ? If i leave it to him he will surely choose not to.
Given my experience, I'd say spend the time doing something he likes or just sleep. Pick up the language at double to pace in future outside if he has interest, with no stress and with lots of fun. Or take it in the university for elective credits which is what my children did. -

Closing date is 22 dec for appealngbrdad:

Think many people still very uncertain abt the S1 and still asking about their chance.this Q has been asked many times before, probably u miss it here.....
the system will rank on merit,
meaning the system will allocate a place for whoever agg score higher than yr boy first,
before coming to yr boy's turn, regardless of he putting it as 1 st choice or not....
Shouldn't one just put in his/her dream school and let the system decide? -
Nebbermind:
Hi! We will definitely put our 1st choice our dream school but we are behind marks just want to know whether any chance or not...we are 3 marks behind...I do hope there is a chance.

Blur Dad:
Blur Dad, have you personally approached HCI to RI ? May be you should no harm give it a try.
Hi phtthpphtthp:
hi BlurDad,
i had helped you pose your 2 questions to the HCI presenter.
here is his reply:-
a) if a child has already accepted a DSA offer from ACS (I) - there is no chance for an appeal according to MOE regulations.
b) a T-score of 257+2 stands a very good chance of entering HCI.
BUT he must place HCI as first choice in the S1 option form.
Thank you very for your help.
I guess, my DS would not have any chance appeal to HCI. As he was already accepted by ACS(I) via DSA. For RI, with T-Socre 256, I guess it is almost impossible.
Will ask my DS to accept the reality and encourage him to work hard in ACS(I). -

Hi phtthp,
dear sister jtoh,
i apologise to you if those things i said sound harsh. I'm now going to purge away all those things that i had said earlier. Bec in my heart, I still regard you highly, because you'd given wonderful, precious great advice to me in the past many times before. Thank you very much, dear sister jtoh.
Just got home and read your note. No hard feelings.
