from what I can gather from my dd, there could be 2 reasons for her drop inn CL marks. 1. The CL compo topic was <te bie de yi tian> meaning a special day, but what she wrote could have been unacceptable because it was more of <nan wang de yi tian> meaning an unforgetable day. 2.On the day of the CL oral, the chair for the student waiting outside the classroom was placed in such a way that the student waiting could hear the conversation inside the room. We heard that this happened in some other schools too. Thus, the oral examiner spoke very softly, and she had to ask for her to repeat the questions.

My dd is hoping to enter cedar IP with 255, while my original hope was that she could go to NYGS to further develope her language abilites. she does not feel sad about not going to NYGS, but I know she will be sad if I express disappointment with her results. Her 2 older siblings in the Uni both said that it really does not matter that much. Just continue to work hard from now on and she will be alright. Hence my reluctance to do appeal for remark.
For my boy it's the unexpected A for English.
I've communicated with his teacher and she said there were a few cases in the class with the unexpected As for English.
In her opinion there was not much point in appealing as marking of language paper is very subjective and probably nothing much positive will come out from the appeal.
My boy also did not make it to his dream school and will most probably go to ACSI which is much nearer to our home anyway.

is year T score is very low?? anyone can help to advise?

my DD got only 227 for 3A & 1A*, very difficult to choose the right sch for him at that moment & affect his self-confident upon receiving the result.

Ngbrdad, ACSI is a very good school. My 3 boys went to ACSI. In my opinion (I was from the Rafflesian family and know many Raffles boys), ACS cultivates in boys something intangible, outside of the chase of good grades. DS1 and DS2 are now law students, though they would be considered average to above average students there. We are middle class and did not really spend on tuition, and they took MRT to school. They both emphasis that CCA is very a important part of secondary school life.

Didn’t know we can pay to recheck the papers because we thought the papers would have gone through several different pairs of eyes and hands so there shouldn’t be any mistakes but we really suspect my child’s Science papers should have gotten an A* instead of just A especially when it is much easier than prelim. Same goes to English but like what the rest said, language is quite subjective. But I guess it is too late to do so for te Science papers now?

Hi there. I think it does not matter unless there's a drastic change in her grades from A to C. When I was in the university, although we can ask for a review for the professors to check whether the marks tallied, there's no remarking allowed. My professors even told me that they haven't seen any student who managed to get their grades changed!

Your 2 older children are correct. Just continue to work hard from now on and she will be fine. All the best 🙂

                  Thanks, elderflowertea, for your reply.

My dd had been consistently good in CL, and topped her school in prelims in CL, so I had hoped for her to go to an SAP school so she will be more ‘chinese’, unlike my ACS sons, who became ‘potatoes’, haha. From my experience with raising ‘potatoes’ , I had carefully nutured her along from a young age to avoid raising another ‘potato’, hence the heartache.

Do you have a child/children of these ages? Sorry if I have gone out of point.
I struggled with gambling her 255 +3, to place NYGH as 1st choice, but in the end placed Cedar IP as 1st choice, in case of the need to appeal. I chose Dunman High as 2nd choice for her.

Hi less kiasu liao, can you share on how you carefully nurture your dd, to ensure that she will not turn out to be another potato? My ds1 is already a potato. I am also trying my best to ensure my ds2 will not be another potato. Maybe you could share your experience with us under the thread ' helping your children with chinese'. Sorry I do not know how to add the link here. Thank you very much.

All the best to yr DD. Hope she will get into Cedah IP. ( her first choice)
                    😄

Hi PiggyLalala, I will be happy to share any experience I have. However, I do not know how to add a link too.

Any regret I have in raising ‘potatoes’ was not primarily due to school results alone, but a desire that they were more chinese like I am. My DS1 and DS2 now understand that being at home in CL will be a advantageous in their working life. However they still advise me that being very good in the EL is of paramount importance (they are both law students).

I was wondering, if you recheck and there’s a mistake in marking, then the whole mean and standard deviation will change. If so, wouldn’t the whole cohort marks change?
