Child do not like to read books

The best way to train a child to read more wordy books is still to use the Peter and Jane series. If you use other books, it will take a lot more patience and time because the child will lose interest and patience even faster since there are so many words that he cannot read. The Peter and Jane books introduce new words systematically and kids gain confidence as they read.mum2dan:
Tamarind,
IC. Thanks!
Re: Peter and Jane series, my son actually started/completed bk 1-3 before 2.5 yr old. But he doesnt seems to have the patient to read bk 4 as it's more wordy.
So i change to other story bks (Fiction and Non Fiction), few sentences in a page. How do i get him to read those more wordy bks?
Whatever books that you use, you need to train the child to point to every word and read out loud. Also, it is best to make sure that the child already knows basic phonics well.
I introduce Peter and Jane series to my girl when she was about 4... she picked up her interest in reading from there.
I started from book 1a... and had until 11c now.
This series is highly recommended because it introduce new words slowly but consistently. -

My kid refused to sit and listen when I read to my kid. Run left and right.
:frustrated: Guess not interested in books that have nothing to play with. Kid prefers those lift and flap books. -
Hi Oppsgal!
My girl also didn’t show her interest in early years. She likes to dance.Different kids has different passion.
I just read when my free time. She saw that and asked me "What r u doing".I said "I am reading".She asked me why?I said "I like to read". I think its about 4 yrs. Then slowly she saw her interest in reading.I bring her from 3yrs onwards to libraries for story time. Then I read story books there.I just patiently do with her.I didn’t force her.Now she(5+) is ok.She can read.
When I enrolled nursery she was very poor in all.I had a hard time as well as she.Now end of K1,She improved a lot.I teach less, surprisingly she learnt from school a lot.She learnt from me less as she can’t accept whatever I said. -
buy books with interactive elements like sounds or music or animals that ur cvhild will like maybe? for one thing, dont stay long on one page for kids take in story books as a picture.

their attention span will be as long as it takes for them to register that page as a image and they will want to move on. on a side note,. they actually register info 6 times faster than us adults. hope this helps.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this as I did not go through the entire thread. If your child has short attention span, try reading each page really fast to catch his/her attention. Some people call this speed reading and it takes practice if you haven’t done that before. It makes the child sit up and since you complete the book in no time, the child might want you to repeat the process as he/she thinks it’s fun. It’s a start.

buy books with pictures
:goodpost: If your child is very much a visual person, he may not fancy seeing too many words on the page. Pictures will certainly help enhance the reading experience. My DS is still choosing books with pictures at P2 and is put off by books filled with only words. There are some readers that come in series which builds up in length of story (number of pages) without squeezing in too many words per page. Indirectly, your child is trained to read longer stories without him/her realizing it. -

Or play with stickers.
Will try speed reading, though not sure can make my kid read with fast reading. Still got to point at each word. -

He'd be shooting off again. It is our speed in reading the story so he gets the CONTENT quickly, within seconds, that it helps to capture his attention. Once you get his attention with the content, you should be able to extend his attention span on reading (just thinking only. let me know if it works
