      Full.Cream:
      How about this one?

      i) I love my toy parrot.

ii) I love my parrot toy.

      I love my toy parrot.

You will say toy car not car toy right?

Unless the parrot's name is Toy then it will be I love my parrot, Toy.

Hahah. English, full of rules that contradict each other.

That's what I thought and have been using all my life.

I saw the other version for the 1st time in the worksheet of my P1's English enrichement class. :?:

          Hi all

My son is in P1 this year and i discovered that he is weak in grammar. Eg, during his SA2, he made a mistake on "You was …" The answer should be "You were…"
He reads a lot of books and still cannot pick up from them. He reads for story and not for grammar. What can i do to help him to improve his grammar?

          Pls help

            Hi favianboy
I used to teach my kids the 2 most important basic requirements in grammar first :

            1. Tense
            2. Agreement

Don't forget vocabulary, it is much harder to teach then grammar. I find giving spelling and fill in the blank the easiest way to teach vocab.

            Good luck!

              Hi favian boy,

Is your son’s school using STELLAR English program?

Yes, he is using Stellar program

I found that Stellar is not structure.

You can try Casco’s Primary English.

It’s more structured and there are appropriate exercises. You can add on your own exercises by referring to those in the book.

Another method I use with students is to use flashcards. Print some common words to create simple sentences. Then ask your child to pick the words to form a sentence. I normally write down the ‘rules’ on the board first. Give examples, then we start on this activity. Helps them to apply and remember better.

Banking on the flashcard method, you can also teach vocab by printing pictures of the words (when possible) on the other side of the card.

For flashcards, you can simply get construction paper (thicker type), cut to size (I prefer to use half of the A4, lengthwise) and write with a thick marker or print if you have a printer at home.

Me too. it is pretty difficult to track the curriculum without proper textbook.
2 days before SA1 english last semester, to my horror, i realised that my boy did not know how to differentiate between 'it's, its, she swims, they swim' etc. luckily he was able to absorb the last minute drilling and most of them didn't come out for SA1 (cos i realised when doing revision in SA2 that some of those were term 3/4 topics).
any good P2 grammer books to recommend?
