The best and most effective is USANA Procosa (Glucosamine), but you have to buy from a member or become a member. My HB swears by it.

My dh has been taking GNC Glucosamine. Works for him. Thanks for the earlier recommendation.

            Now I need recommendation too.
I experienced rather severe allergic reaction after taking GNC Glucosamine. Only took 3 tablets so far, on separate days, as I just began exercising recently.

I suspect it's because GNC Glucosamine contains shrimp. The strange thing is I'm not normally allergic to shellfish, so I'm not sure why the severe allergic reactions to GNC's.

Wondering if I should try my luck at another brand just to test reaction?
Any recommendation for 'vegetarian' Glucosamine? Seems not as readily available.
Otherwise, what other supplements can I take for knees?

            Thanks in advance !

Doctors all recommend Viartril S effervescent glucosamine. Available at pharmacies.

This is better than the capsule or tablet versions. I personally took it and it was good.

Aside from taking glucosamine, you can think of losing weight too. I lost 11kg and now have no pain even without taking glucosamine.

An extra 1kg of weight = 5kg on your knees!

Ironically, I encountered knee pain because I started exercising.

I was completely pain free when I was a couch potatoe.

Can try the TGV Glucosamine cream that applies directly to knees and joints. My parents in law swear by it. They say applying works better than consuming glucosamine tablets. No pain and can walk better.

Here's the link to the product. http://www.lynkbiotech.com/webshop/product_detail_1.asp?id=1

That's the misconception that you can only lose weight by doing a lot of exercise. If you have pain in your knees, you cannot lose weight by exercising such as jogging. You are putting more strain on the joints. I couldn't even jog when I was fatter. Try losing weight by eating less carbo and smaller meals first. You can do light exercise only like yoga, no jogging pls.

I lost weight by eating less, not thru exercise.

Could be plantar fasciits. I had that few years back and suffered for a few months before deciding to see the doctor. Was prescribed some medicine which cured it.
