All About Getting Help for Students Weak in English
-
My son was in ICR but it didn’t work well for him. He was there for 2 years. Till today, because his foundation is weak, he still struggles.
So when my daughter was in k2, I send her to mrs Sam learning formula. She can read and write well. She was in their magic spell program and they do guarantee the result. However, it is not easy to send your kid at this stage a it is a 4 times a week for 4 consecutive months.
Give them a all for a free assessment and they may help to point out your kid weakness. -
Any recommendation for good English tutor in the East?
DD1 has been attending group tuition for over a year now, but grades hadn’t improved much (68-70). Tuition center is one of highly recommended on this forum. i must say the teacher is good, materials are good but class size too big. Don’t think is effective for my DD.
PSLE is just a couple of mths away, really desparate!!
Looking for 1-to-1 tutor, preferably current\ex-teacher or FT tutor who is still willing to take in PSLE student now.
Appreciate recommendations, no tuition agents pls. thanks. -

HappyMumKim. I have PM you.Hi happymom_aa, she doesn't sound keen to take in P3.
I google search and found this http://bukitbatoktuition.com , ex RPGS teacher and I hv contacted her. Pending confirmation to start a P3 class on saturday. You might want to check if this suits.
If any parents hv experience w this tutor - Patricia, yr feedback is much appreciated. -
I need help here… Need advice from you guys out there…
My boy is in P2 right now and it is so daunting that he cannot even construct a proper sentence.
Because he is not able to construct proper sentences, he is weak in written expression and also comprehension.
Is there any tip anyone can share with me on how to tackle this problem please?
And also, his vocab too is not strong.
Anyone out there with tips or books to recommend me that can be used to enhance vocab for a P2 kid please?
Thanks so much,
Liz -
Anyone has experienced and committed English tutor to recommed? The two tutors I engaged recently didn't work. One decided to quite after two months claiming he has other commitment and no longer available. The other one was 30 mins late for 1st lesson and didn't bother to inform that she was not available on the 2nd lesson until I called to find out why she didn't turn up. Not accountability at all. Seems like it is hard to get a good one

zqingqing:
Dear zqingqing,My boy is now in P5.
His result suddenly dropped.
Does anyone know a good El teacher?
Please recommend me, if you know.
It would be great if you are able to analyse and see which areas in the English paper have your son's grades drop? There are various components in the English paper and it would be great to see which areas your son would require guidance on.
The common areas where students tend to make mistakes are the comprehension, composition and the vocabulary cloze. If you are able to identify the areas where your son needs guidance, he will improve faster. You might also like to encourage your son to read more English story books. Reading books helps a student on all levels, including the learning of grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, sentence structures, as well as developing a flair for fiction writing. You might also like to encourage him to read out loud and invest in a portable electronic dictionary with pronunciation (which he can check whenever he is in doubt). This will help him in his pronunciation, which will in turn aid him in his oral tests.
Warmest Regards,

English is a tough subject to master. My son is in P6 this year. A good friend recommended this lady at the beginning of this year. This tutor is very strict but it's ok to me bcos son needs that discipline (and someone to be afraid of  )
This tutor teaches mainly P6 students...she brings kids on outings to view the titanic display, airport and most recently, a restaurant so as to get students to have a feel in case they are given such a scenery during the orals.
It's amazing and truly incredulous :yikes: that a tutor brings kids out...never have I heard that before. My daughter in P2 wanted to go along. I am confident this lady will help me son get good results for his English...but most importantly, she has boosted his confidence.
I just saw her link...her name is Anne Chin. Am relieved to park my son there.
