Which Country Suitable For Young Children?

bloodymiko:
any country that have snow but not too harsh weather temperature? cause i will be bringing my boy 10+ and elderly parents 50+ yrs old for this trip.....
Eh, a bit hard hor? Think it all depends on your definition of \"not too harsh\". What about places like Mount Buller (Victoria, AZ) or Threadbo (NSW, AZ) where u can find snow in the mountains during winter, but generally not snowing in the cities? Not possible if u decide to travel at the end of the year, though

I personally would not go to China if I have young children. Cos in case they fall sick and see doctor in China, I don't know whether to let the child take the prescribed medicine or not.hi all , need advise on travelling for 1, 4 and 6 y.o

Um… Here’s what I think about the countries suitable for Young Children
- China is too cold in December (even one of the most Southern parts like Guangdong can drop to just 12 degrees Celsius) and personally the flights to China are too long if the children are traveling on plane for the first time.
- Thailand is not bad, plane flight takes only one hour plus. Go to Thailand in December though. In Summer, Thailand can be quite hot and stuffy, temperatures reach 38 degrees Celsius.
- Malaysia is not bad, too. Though honestly I dont see any difference between MY and SG XD
- Australia has very good weather. In winter, it doesn’t get too cold (about 16 degrees Celsius? Depending on where you go) and in summer, the temperature is still a comfortable 20+ degrees Celsius (other than Darwin, for some reason, temperatures there hit a SUPER UNCOMFORTABLE 40+ degrees Celsius).
Perth is a feasible choice. Traveling there takes only four to five hours and the weather there is good.
Sydney is good. But the living expenses there are much more higher than Perth and its a seven to eight hours flight away.
Queensland tend to get hit by typhoons. So beware.
- New Zealand is same as Australia, though it gets colder in winter and the flight there is longer.
- Korea and Japan are way too cold (Korea is about -3 degrees Celsius in winter and Japan is like 4 degrees celsius in Central Japan.)
- Africa is too hot and too far away. Definitely not a good choice.
- America is SUPER SUPER far away. No child of age 4 and 7 can stand it without crying.
- Europe is too far away too.
So actually, I suggest that Perth is a good place to go for children to see Kangaroos and Koalas and all that stuff, good weather, moderate flight timing. Australia is a so-called "western" cultured country so they will probably serve Western food, which probably most children like.
Thailand is a good place too. But the food there tends to be spicy, unsuitable for children.
I know it’s all in the Asian and Oceania area because the children are still young. On long flights, having "blocked" ears make them super uncomfortable and resulting in them crying.
Bear with them for another few years. I’m sure by the time they are eleven, you can bring them to further places like Europe, America etc.
Going to America is still super draining though, your children can stand going there without crying, but they’ll have a ear-splitting headache and feel nauseous throughout the flight.
I could still remember the other time I went to America, nearly shit bricks from the 6 hours (from SG to Tokyo) plus 1 hour (Tokyo Narita to Tokyo Haneda) plus 16 hours (Tokyo Haneda to Los Angeles International Airport) equals 23 long painful hours of airplane flights. Gosh! Had cramps all over the moment I stepped down from the plane. Puked in the toilet for a series of times.
But after the painful flight, LA is really a VERY GOOD PLACE TO VISIT. Food is good, cheap. Many sightseeing spots etc. -

Actually I once went to Hong Kong when I was like 4 years old. I got food poisoning somehow and stayed in the Hong Kong hospital for two months because of intestinal tract infection.

The medical services was still okay though.
Maybe it's because it's Hong Kong, a specially governed place but still under China though it's a different country altogether.
So... Yeah:.. -
even with proper cold wear, u thk dec to korea will be too cold for young children ? still hesitated… PIL objected !

We adults went to Korea in Nov and already my DH said he almost died from the cold. So DH will never take young kids to Korea in the winter. Kids above 8yo OK.
When preparing for family trips, we must always consider safety, hygiene, interesting places for kids and ease of commuting. Shopping is not a priority coz we prob dun have the leisure to do our own shopping with young kids around.
We won’t consider taking our kids to China coz of safety issues. It’s already so stressful to watch our kids in HK with all those rumours about kidnappings.
Japan is nice but with the radiation scare, it’s not in my radar any time soon. Perhaps another 5 - 10 years.
Taiwan is an option I am considering since it is cheap, nearby and has many farm stays. Shopping and food are good too. But hygiene is not up to mark at many places.
HK, BKK and Phuket are places that I prefer to go by myself or with my DH. Main aim is to shop and eat. Not hygienic enough for really young kids.
The best place for kids IMHO would be Australia, any city will do. Not too hot and not too cold. People are relatively friendly and things are not that expensive. Standard of hygiene is very good too and most of the places of interest are targeted at kids.
