Secondary School CCA

Lynn2010:
Not sure about the qualification of the teacher as it is appointed by the school. The instrument is DB and my dd has just started on that. Personally, I think the charges are a bit expensive but I was told by my friend whose dd is learning violin that string instrument learning is more expensive as it is rare as compared to piano.
My dd sch is the same (wonder if it is the same sch). If one is in golf CCA, the child is expected to take external lessons, same for swimming, strings etc.sotongchua:
Hi, my girl has just received her CCA allocation and she has gotten into string. The only issue is apparently this comes with a implicit understanding that she needs to take up lesson by external tutor for the instrument that she has been selected and it costs about $80/hr.
Can anyone advise is this practice normal?
$80/hr for which grade? A little expensive unless you are talking about teacher who has a degree in music, in SSO etc etc (I think) and the child is in Gr 7 or 8. Which string instrument? (Out of curiosity). My dd in strings. -

Usually the teachers would have a standard rate, no matter the grade. Similar to my ds' teacher. No matter what grade, he just pays for the instructor's time.

Was wondering, i heard that the max amount of CIP hours that can be collected is 100hours for 5 cca points in O levels. So if my daughter were to exceed that, the extra hours wonβt be worth anything i presume? No extra cca points?
HELP please TT.TT
And if the answer is no extra points, why do some students accumilate up to 400 hours? -
Yes⦠the max is 100 hours. Therefore if you do 200 hours, there will not be any extra points.
My dd exceed the 100 hours too. She enjoys CIP. Some students may not know. Also, some schools organise CIP program so that the students can earn CIP points. These activities are sometimes compulsory. So, if you add your own activity plus the school organised CIP hours, you may add up alot. -

I really dun like those who just go for CIP activity for the sake of CIP hours!! Must be genuine to help right?? -
Hi Val,
Yes her CIP exceeds and we actually stop recording early Sec 3.
Not only her CIP exceeds, her CCA pts also exceeds. As she is in string ensemble, she has many performance, etc. She exceeds the pts when the school won the Gold w honours last year. Of course the max .... 5pts?? or something for that category??
I was quite bad to ask her to stop the performance this year, but she told me she enjoys and did it not for pts :). So though most sec 4 in her school stop CCA in Apr, she stops in July bcos of performances. I'm worried but will just let her do whatever she enjoys. After all, we all have only one chance to live in each age.....just enjoy
