hi mckenzy, I personally feel that watching Chinese drama, listen to Chinese pop songs, help to cultive the interest. Morever, HK Chinese dubbed dramas are more educating and positive than Singapore ones. However, the recent drama showing on Ch 8, Daddy at home, not bad. Local Ch 8 and Ch U Chinese news is good too.

Actually, his school environment, teachers and friends play an important part too. My girl's interest in Chinese increase tremendously when she is in Sec 1, with good Chinese teacher, a group of clique who speaks Mandarin and like Chinese pop singers.

      A few other suggestions
      1) Chinese drama class http://www.yppae.org/portal/
      2) Attend exhibitions about Chinese culture, eg. museums, national library
      3) Watch Chinese performance and plays. Check out sistics
      4) Watc Chinese movies, since he is a boy, maybe he would like those history war movies eg. 赤壁 ?

My son is P5 next year. He has done very badly for his Chinese Exams 32/100 😢 But fairly good for other subjects.

He unable to read & recognize the characters and forget everything the next day...
I'm puzzle why he can't understand Mandarin whereby we speak Mandarin fluently...? Currently, my son is attending Chinese enrichment classes.

Looking for great advise from parents, plz share your experience with me!

Yes, pls share with us how you do it. Or any tutor recommendation. My nephew P5 this year failed his chinese as well. He seems to be in a \"I hate chinese\" stage. When watching news, he would ask the parents what is the newscaster talking about.

My sil told me that he don't seem to be able to remember characters. He forgets it very quickly.

They are sending him for those motivational program that cost a bomb during hols. Hoping that he would be more motivated.

But any tips on chinese learning at this stage and condition?

                    Hihi

I started my son with doremon comics books. sound strange right. But he did began to like chinese after reading comics books and hee… he loves singing, so we started to sing karaoke and he starts to learn to recognize chinese character.

Previously he just managed to pass, now he is getting band 1 for his chinese.

                    Hope it helps

There are some good picture books to improve Chinese. You should take note of them.
