Can someone help me with the following S&T question?
My DD’s teacher says only 1st one is acceptable, but I thought both are acceptable.
1. Much as she would love to join her friends for a movie, Karen cannot finish her homework in time.
2. Much as Karen would love to join her friends for a movie, she cannot finish her homework in time.

Tks for your help. DD's answer is same as yours. But her friend's answer was :
Much to his embarrassment, Steven had forgotten the lyrics while singing in the contest.
She said embarrassed (past tense) so must change forgot to had forgotten. Is it correct??
The sight of Samad's neighbour's house on fire stunned him.
Correct or not?
