I too was uncomfortable with gratefulness instead of gratitude and went to check the dictionary. I was surprised to see that it is acceptable as well. Things sure have changed including what's acceptable and what's not in the English Language.

My teacher do not use gratefulness, but teach us gratitude.

            Hi,

Can someone help me with the following S&T question?

My DD’s teacher says only 1st one is acceptable, but I thought both are acceptable.

            1. Much as she would love to join her friends for a movie, Karen cannot finish her homework in time.
            2. Much as Karen would love to join her friends for a movie, she cannot finish her homework in time.

            TIA.
